For those of us who value our privacy and the security of our home computer network, and choose to avoid WIFI, these routers are a good solution. They allow you to run several Ethernet equipped devices from one WAN input. In my case I have 2 home computers and my Sony Blu-ray DVD player running from it. The price on these has come way down so they can be found at affordable prices.. Buy several while they are still available.

This BEFSR41 version 2.00.02 of 2/14/2007 I received from you is working at present better than what I thought about out of support by Cisco of older versions of routers. This version is really a stand-alone small home network router that seems working better without software upgrade. However, I still need to know more about NAT the so-called built-in firewall capability as opposed to other brands like small DLink routers where one can identify which ports or URLs should be blocked or enabled to configure firewalls or filters. I will see what comes up in the future about the security of my aquired BEFSR41 ver 2.00.02.

I purchased this router as a replacement for a failed unit that I use to observe my cameras at my Laundromat. These routers are easy to set up for "port forward" to enable distant viewing. The one I received was refurbished by Cisco and I received it with factory seals. It ended up being defective and Cisco wouldn't give me any customer support because it was an outdated product. I ended up buying the newest Cisco router locally and it worked well. I still have one more of these in use at another location, but I'd recommend you just buy fresh product. Obviously my refurbished unit was never good the first or the second time around. Cisco products are usually ok, but their customer support is crap. After they refurbed their product, and it sat in their or the resellers possession for way too long, they decided not to support a product that apparently was a dud from the get go. I will continue to use their routers because I am familar with them, but I'm not a fan.I was tempted to buy a D-Link router on sale on Black Friday for 19.95 instead of Cisco's $59.95, but I didn't want to spend hours and hours to learn a new product, and risk finding out another brand may not work for my application.Read full review
