I was disappointed by this movie because Toni Collette is featured as the main star but she most definitely is not. This story is about an old woman, Ruth Cracknell, who was abused by her father and locked in a mental institution for 40 years. Then she is released suddenly and has no idea how to adjust to the outside world. She walks around, reciting Shakespeare to every person, family member and cabdriver she meets. It is the story of a woman driven mad before she ever has the chance to truly live. She finally meets the love of her life her father drove away when she was young, and she struggles to understand him. It is an interesting story, though drawn out and boring with WAY too few scenes with Toni Collette. This must have been an early role for her, as she had about 5 lines and was in the movie for less than ten minutes. However, Ruth Cracknell, whom I have never seen before, truly shines in this. It is a beautiful story, however long and drawn out it might have been. I am disappointed because I bought this as a Toni Collette fan and she is hardly in it, but pleased because it is a interesting character study, which, I guess is probably what drew Toni to star in this in the first place. Towards then end, though Toni gets some long play but her scenes are so disturbing you don't really want to watch them. What a disturbingly sad movie. If you do not have a strong stomach, I'd avoid this story.Read full review
