I bought this camera because, while still serviceable, my old 3 megapixel Olympus camera (which I primarily use to take pictures of items I sell here on Ebay) eats batteries like crazy and does not have very much memory. I read great things about this camera, and found it for a fantastic price here. I like the fun red color, and the fact that's tiny but seems sturdy. I'm not a great photographer, so it's automatic mode features compensate nicely for my lack of skills. :-) I was disappointed that it did not come with a memory card included, so I couldn't just open the box and start playing. It did come with a battery AND battery charger, though, which is a wonderful improvement over my old camera. It also seems to not be so power-hungry despite all of the features and 12.1 megapixel resolution. Overall, this is a very functional camera that fits right in your pocket, and is very easy to use for even the least camera-savvy folks out there. The fact that it also shoots HD video (though I have not personally used the video features yet) is also awesome. Highly recommended -- I would given an "Excellent" rating if it also had come with a memory card included.Read full review
Here is my take after shooting about 500 pics and a dozen or so videos. A very capable camera, limited zoom, small enough to carry every day if you wish. Good battery life, nice color rendition. Tiny viewfinder( but at least there is one), solid feel, quality build. Will accept a 32GB memory card, I chose an 8GB( 43mins of HD video or a couple thousand pics, plenty for me). I never loaded the enclosed software but use Picasa (Google) instead, love it. Great screen with some washout in bright sun, but usable. The user interface feels intuitive ( with a couple of exceptions that must be learned), much like my wife's SD 870is. The flash is limited to about 6 feet and I used it for fill in some shadowy outside shots and liked the results. I primarily bought this camera so I could keep it in my pocket every day. I take it hiking and biking. Perfect for that. I went to Yosemite recently and found the 3x optical zoom a little limiting, but with 12 MP I can enlarge and crop to compensate somewhat. The digital zoom reaches 12x, but after 3x the picture degrades. You have to give up some features for such a compact size. If size matters, It's a great little camera for it's intended purpose, I'm happy with it and would buy it again.Read full review
I loved the color accent feature. It lets you choose one color and then all pictures you take will only show that one color and everything else that isn't that color will be black & white. This is actually one of the reasons I bought a new Canon. I also was greatly satisfied with the lag time between when you press the button to take the picture & when it actually records. Its less than a second and really you can't beat it with any other brands that are out there. The only thing I didn't like about it was that at first it was hard to navigate the menu screens. You get used to it though. You'll have to read the manual if you're using it for more artistic shots but for everyday point & shoot, its a no-brainer. I recommend this to anyone looking for a very high quality point & shoot.
If you are a fan of Canon cameras you will enjoy this one. It's very compact which is convenient. It can easily fit in your back pocket though I don't recommend that. It takes very sharp photos and crisp video. My only complaint is that it does not save video as an AVI file. I knew this before ordering but as a novice when it comes to file extensions I didn't think it was a big deal. Boy was I wrong. The video files are saved as MOV files and unfortunately that means it won't play in windows media player. It plays in Apple Quicktime. Well you may be thinking that's not a big deal but it is because the sound and video don't match up when played in Quicktime. I played around with my computer and downloaded some things and finally got the video to play in media player however it still won't work in windows movie maker. That's right, if you enjoy editing your video's in windows movie maker this is not the camera for you. Movie maker doesn't understand MOV files. I was told I could buy a file converter to convert the files from MOV to AVI. Honestly the main reason I purchased this camera is because it video's in HD but had I known it would be such a hassle I would have probably gone with another Canon model.Read full review
I bought this camera for the size. It is easy to carry and light in weight. I use it in business, and for some personal pictures. It has a great resolution. I like the zoom function. After you have taken a picture then you have enough resolution to zoom into the portion you want and crop it from the rest of the picture. That is for my business usage, but I am sure it will be useful in other pictures also. I feel it is a good product for the size and price.
