The T420s is a good business class machine. Although it's obviously a few years old at this point (2016) things haven't changed so much in terms of processor speed that you notice any real speed difference on normal office style work (word processing, light spreadsheets, email and web browsing). It's also, unlike more recent T series machines, very easy to expand and upgrade, with the DVD bay available for use to install a second hard drive. RAM can be expanded up to 16GB, though the machine officially only supports 8GB. Note that going to 16GB does seem to generate some video quirks for some on boot (in my case the screen to enter the code to decrypt the drive for Bitlocker is unreadable, though it immediately fixes itself)--and if you turn on the more verbose boot screen in the BIOS you'll find that they didn't leave enough characters to show 16,384 MB of RAM--so it shows it as 6,384MB (though it's seeing the whole 16GB). Expansion as noted is very easy. There is a small cover that opens up to reveal both RAM slots (you don't have one hidden under the keyboard as you do in the newer T series machines) and the hard drive also can be removed easily. I upgraded mine to 16GB of RAM and put a 500GB SSD in the space where the DVD is found. Docking stations are also available at very reasonable prices on eBay and they can make it very simple to use this at your desk, and then quickly take it out to use on the road. It is the "lighter, thinner" version of the T420 so battery life is not a strong point. You can put a battery in the DVD bay in lieu of either the DVD or a second hard drive, but those batteries are relatively expensive (more due to being rare) and the boost in life is not huge. Expect to be looking for a power outlet after a couple of hours for this machine.Read full review

The computer works very well and the process of updating to Windows 10, despite taking quite a long time, was successful and had no additional cost. Everything as expected, except that the battery only lasts a few hours, which is somewhat expected with an old/used computer. I do, however, have some doubt that this is "90+%" of the battery life.

Light weight and mobile friendly. Screen is good though not touch so the battery last a long time. Great keyboard feel with no flex or odd key placement. I really like it and it feels very solid. For a older model it is still very capable and fast.
