The first thing you'll notice about the Callaway Forged range of wedges are that they are a lot lighter than the new Cleveland CG10's. The head is a little smaller too, but they are very very easy to use, and come off the ground with a lot of control. The great thing is, now with the new Callaway Forged + wedges out, these older ones can be picked up very cheaply, and are well worth it. I have four of these in my bag, and after having tried Nike, Taylormade, Cleveland and Ping, I can honestly say that Callway are the best for wedges. Not my opinion on irons, as I haven't tried their irons, but these wedges are fantastic. Off tight lies, they are simply brilliant, and you get a lot of spin off precision timing the ball. From an average lie, they feel great, and I find with the smaller head, you get more control than many other wedges. But wedges and putters are usually always a very personal thing, so just try these if you can, you probably will be very surprised, and you can pick these up for a steal nowadays. I strongly recommend the Rust finish, as the chrome does not give the ball as much spin, and you simply get a much better feel from these over time, as they begin to rust, (Rust models are made to rust, so it puts more spin on the ball).Read full review
These clubs are quite expensive, and to be honest, I actually prefer the feel of the older vintage clubs without the plus. The head on these is a little bigger, and they are almost the same as the older vintage model, but for the price you pay, you can probably get a whole set of the older vintage clubs for the price of one or two of these. They feel a little different on tighter lies, and I found it harder to get a stop shot with these, but when you do, they stop real quick. I just found that you get more consistency with the older clubs, than these newbies. But they are very similiar and I don't think they have put all that much difference into the two clubs at the end of the day. Well worth trying these clubs though, and make sure you use a soft 4 piece ball when you do, otherwise you're wasting your time.Read full review
I bought this 48* wedge to replace my pitching wedge and my approach wedge so I can add more hybrids for those long par 4s. It works great on pitching distance and in between distance. This wedge can make the ball land softly and check or makes the ball skip and check by just changing hand position. It help me add a hybrid those long par 4s that require a distance and stay on the green shots. Slightly heavy from other wedges that makes it easy to go through rough and/or just drop the club on tight lies and it will make the ball check. Of course this is ONLY my opinion. You have to try it for yourself. And most important, you have to practice, practice, practice then practice some more...
This is a great wedge for an older model of club. I really enjoyed the vintage look of the club because of the reduced glare that you have at address, for me that it is a bonus so I can focus on the impact area and not the glare of the club head. This club hits fairly well and is not to forgiving, when hit in the sweet spot you can barely feel the ball off the club head and holds green fairly well with a great ball..I however honestly prefer the new X tour wedges that far exceed these older models..but all in all a fairly descent wedge.
What a nice wedge, has better spin than other wedges I have ( 2 other major name brands ), it is so obvious to see the ball dance more on the green either pitched or chipped onto the green; especially on a firm and down sloped run. definitely will change other wedges in the future to the same. Becareful of selecting the correct bounce for your usage, as low bounce angle would be more difficult to hit out of sand and soft fairway. Try out a few for your own purpose and reqirements. You won't be disappointed.
