I have enjoyed Peter Egan's writings in Cycle World for the past few years. I found him to write in a manner that appeared to follow his direct, though seldom simple, stream of thought--maybe not Pulitzer material, but who cares? This book was certainly more enjoyable than any dry academic thesis. I was aware that Peter Egan had published two books which were collections of his earlier columns in the magazine, but I had not had the time to read them in the past. Leanings was the title of the first of the book; Leanings Two was the title of the second one. This book, Leanings, met my expectations in every way. Peter Egan appeared to have no bias against any particular brand of motorcycles--he stated his love for his Ducati as much as for his BMW and his Harley Davidson. So, whether he talked about an extended road trip, a track day, off road in the dirt, or a Sunday cruise, he was writing about what mattered most to genuine motorcyclists: riding! I guess what appealed to me most most powerfully throughout the book was Peter's down-to-earth attitude about pursuing what he loved and was able to share with others. I even appreciated his constant buying and selling of bikes in order to be able to move to the next two-wheeled "whim" because I have to confess to similar alternating moments of strength and weakness in my own life. Finally, and much as many truly great writers from the past have accomplished, perhaps Peter Egan's most powerful talent was his ability to place you, through his writing, on the seat of his motorcycle on many, sometimes unusual and always colorfully described, rides.Read full review
Mr.Peter Egan remains, by far, the best ever Moto-journalist the world has ever seen! His passion for motorcycling also as an avid traveler(on two-wheels)is evident from his 'ground-zero' narrations that will and do inspire many a couch potato and arm-chair motorcyclists to step out into the open astride a moto and explore the wide open roads under 'em blue skies and write home about it too -to friends and families- bingo, the way Peter does! He, Peter Egan, inspires nay motivates me for sure! And what better than this here book "LEANINGS" to tag along when i myself travel overland, eh?! Long live Peter Egan!! And may his journeys, articles never end!!! Leanings sure is one book worth more than its weight in gold, will confess!
If you like motorcycles and have any sense of humor at all, this is as good as it gets.
