I sharpen lots of knives, and often the cutting edge of the blade is at too harsh of an angle to bring to maximum sharpness on my extra-fine Sharpmaker stones. That's why I bought two Lansky diamond hones, the extra coarse and the coarse, to use with my Lansky kit. They both take off steel very fast, even on hard steels like D2 and CTS-XHP that will damage synthetic or Arkansas hones. The hone's cutting surface is perfectly flat, and it hooked right to the rods already in my Lansky kit. I like to use it when large amounts of steel don't need to come off (in which case I use the extra-coarse hone) or to give a more finished look after I use the extra-coarse hone. I highly recommend this hone; you will greatly appreciate the time it saves you in edge work, especially with very hard steels.Read full review

My recomedation is to start with Lansky Coarse Diamond Sharpening Hone (LDHCR) if the edge are dull or has a chip. After Coarse Diamond, or if the knife are just slightly dull, i recommend Lansky Medium Diamond Sharpening Hone (LDHMD). For finishing a good edge that bite on most materials, i reccomend to finish with Lansky Fine Diamond Sharpening Hone (LDHFN). As a last finish i also reccomend a few drag with strop (white is my prefered pasta). If you strop the edge after use, it will stay sharp a long time. PS: do not use power when you use Diamnonds, let the hone do the job. Thank you for looking at my review. Good luck.

I needed something that would take off metal faster than my coarse lansky stone for fixing chips and reprofiling blade edges, and this is excellent for that. Just be careful not to put too much pressure while sharpening, let the hone do the work. Also, it doesnt take many strokes to completely reprofile an edge that is made from softer steels like Aus8 or 420HC. Highly recommended to add to your lansky system.

Does s very good job when used properly. One problem though, when trying to use the first level (17%) the knob gets in the way, making it all but impossible not to have to switch the blade around on the opposite side. This problem does need tgo ber addressed.

I was amazed at how well the Lansky diamond sharpener stones worked. I order a compete set of the diamond stones and they quickly sharped to a razor edge, knifes that have not been sharp in years. And yes, after sharping the knifes, they do cut paper easily. Very pleased with the Lansky system
