As a Cleveland native I have seen local talent make attempts to go big, but this kid is something serious. With a reputation for being crazy has seemed to slow his success, he stays loyal to his fans and doesn't pander to the corporate backing of Bad Boy. Not enough attention is given to MGK for his skill along with his massive hunger and grind to make his own path and move up the hip hop ladder. MGK brings his own style and flavor that I personally feel is a breath of fresh air from the monotony of today's music. I am a big fan and respect this kid but this is a review so I have to be honest. Here are my complaints that made it a nice 4 stars instead of a solid 5. First, I do not like Bad Boy to begin with as they seem to destroy career opportunities and provide poor marketing. MGK released an EP (Half Naked & Almost Famous) that included tracks that you will find on the Lace Up deluxe edition. Some of the other tracks were already released material also. Even MGK himself has admitted that this album is not the one that is going to showcase him the best & to look for his sophomore release to be much more of his true talent however. Next, I would like to have seen a more full track listing at around 18 without the deluxe pack simply because what they considered a deluxe was simply the addition of the EP. Overall I love this album minus the few complaints I provided above. MGK has serious potential to be great and should be examined more thoroughly prior to judgement on his appearance and sometimes questionable actions. He is a true talent that Cleveland, Ohio can be proud to call their own.Read full review
