Overall a very good club. very solid feeling without the metalic ping sound you hear from so many other drivers. In comparing it; may sound like it's dead, but don't be fooled this is what most advanced players like about the club. The solid feel, the 905R is still preferred over Titleist newer clubs. I think its better then the 909 but close and no comparison between the 907 which was one of the worst clubs Ive demo. With the proper fitted shaft for you. You will bomb it. I had a 905R from a touring pro the face cracked and I removed the shaft. He is now using his backup 905R but for most of us we can't generate enough speed to worry about that. 120+ mph club head speed and their normal swing speed is about 115- 117 mph. For most of us if you can get over a hundred you're doing something. Most tour clubs dont fit us, with Titleist it has a though shaft with stiffens the tip. I recommend using a soft tip shaft with a low kick point. Stiff or Regular is speed dependent. 105 + Stiff otherwise regular but a soft tip is recommended. Don't worry about the torque it is stiffened with the though shaft. This holds true with all though shafts including callaway.Read full review
Sorry to rain on the parade. (also read my review of R7 460) I tested a 9.5 degree against an R7 460.On the golf course and again on the driving range. The Titleist had the advantage of a stiff flex 67 gram United Sports Technologies (UST) Shaft against the 66 gram R flex UST of the 10. 5 degree TM club. I liked its flight which was little flatter (due to loft) I liked its looks and it has a rustic tough finish. I liked the fact that Tour Players purport to carry them But I didn't get as crisp a feel or any additional length or accuracy from the 905R. I felt R7 460 significantly overshadowed this club in direct comparison in every facet. I'm surprised with the result of that comparison and it effected my choice of driver purchase. Nice club but not the nicest. It is my second choice of Driver, the one I didn't buy!! I note comparison with R7 Quads in other reviews , I don't like the R7 Quad either! Try both clubs before you buy a 460cc driver!Read full review
I first became interested in this driver during a golf trip in the early part of the year. I hit a demo club at a range in Florida and I was impressed. Later, in June of this year, a golf buddy bought an 8.5 degree 905R fitted with the Proforce V2 shaft. This club was long. I currently play the Tour Exotics 10.5 deg driver. I decided that some of the length I was experiencing was due to the shaft, so I switched my NV-65 for the V2 Proforce. I did not see a noticeable change in length, but my Tour exotics shot dispersion was noticeable tighter. Well, this past Fall, I again hit the Proforce and found the driver to be longer. So I bought a 9.5 degree 905R and played two rounds. The 9.5 was long, but produced very high shots, too high for my liking. I realize it is all about carry these days, but this was just too much. I switched back to the Tour Exotics and will most certainly try more Titeist drivers in the future. The bottom line on this driver, it is long, noticeably longer, and do not be afraid to drop down a degree from your current driver.Read full review
I have played the 905R for 3 years and have really enjoyed what the club can do for me. I was able to enjoy it most when I learned what it will and wont do. I found that (9.5 degrees S shaft) I was able to get the ball airborne with little effort, even off the deck. I also found that the club is NOT a very forgiving club. When hit on the screws your ball (I use the Pro V1x) it flys forever but if you behind a little with your hip or you get to handsy it is very simple to pull or push the ball withthis club, which is why I would NOT recommend it for the average player.
This is most forgiving Titleist driver I have played so far. Class shape gives a confident look when addressed and square offset is easy to control when I need to shape a shot. The graphite designs YS-6II (65 gram) shaft was a little light compared with my previous speeder 757 (77gram) but I could not find the YS-7 shaft on eBay so I settled on YS-6. The sound is typical BETA titanium metal but above center hit will give a crisp sound overall. So much better than some of drivers out there on the market. One that I cannot stand is tin can sounding driver many guys play to make a loud sound at driving range. The ball will spin less if it is struck above the centerline and gives a good launch angle. I am using 9.5 degree and maximum height is about 40 yards so it gives a good carry and roll. My previous R7 Quad TP was also 9.5 degree and has 1 degree open face at setup but I still think it is more forgiving than 905R despite of 60cc smaller head. However, the head shape of 905R gives more confidence when you address so that is important factor on driver for me. My swing speed is 105 mph and launch angle is 14 degrees with spin rate of 3000 rpm with 905R = 265 yard carry. I recommend this driver if you have consistent driving path such as draw or fade. If you have inconsistent driving, this driver is tough to control.Read full review
