Designed for use with Mattel's Entertainment Computer System keyboard add-on, Scooby Doo's Maze Chase puts players in control of the title character as he runs around one of ten pre-programmed mazes (or a maze of your own design), chasing ghosts and avoiding a skull. If three ghosts are caught within a given time limit, the skull will temporarily vanish, and a submarine sandwich will appear. Eating a sandwich garners a magic bone, which can be placed in the pathway of the skull, effectively "freezing" it briefly. A mildly enjoyable game for younger kids, SDMC doesn't fully utilize the added power of the ECS, with the notable exception of the maze editor. The graphics are cute, but not particularly head-and-shoulders above a standard Intellivision game. Annoyingly, every time a skull touches Scooby, the difficulty level is trimmed in half. This was probably incorporated to ward off frustration in younger players, but veteran gamers may feel a lack of progression.
