What I liked: the main character, Kitty, actually made some personal growth, discovered her backbone, and made positive changes in her life. In the process she becomes more likeable. What I loved: ... uhm ... What I disliked: First and foremost, I thought this was going to be a humorous book. Not only is it entirely unfunny, it takes itself way too seriously. Many of the characters are too cardboard cut-out. One of the few characters who has some life in him doesn't even make it to the end of the book. A good deal of the supernatural society building doesn't hold water, comes across more as author's plot device than anything that might reasonably occur. Remember, we're s'posed to suspend disbelief here, not hang it by the neck until dead. Overall: It's a first effort, the beginning of a series, set-up. I'd give the second book a chance, just to see whether the author gets past the rough patches and tells a better, tighter story.Read full review
This book was a good start to make you familiar with the character. I got a little tired of reading about the phone calls. but otherwise i wasn't bored. I KNOW the best is yet to come in the next book,. So keep an eye on Carrie Vaughns Kitty series!! I would definitely give this a try if I ran out of Hamilton, Harris, Harrison, Armstrong, etc. to read..Carrie Vaughn will definitely fill the void!!
I loved this book! The humor in Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville series is priceless. She is an experienced writer with all the professional skills in creating an engaging story that you won't be dissapointed. The whole series is excellent. Plan on finishing a book in one sitting once you start because you won't be able to put it down and I guarantee that you will laugh out loud at the paranormal vampire and shapeshifter humor that comes fully to life in the first book.
Books in order: (1) Kitty & the Midnight Hour (2) Kitty goes to Washington (3) Kitty takes a Holiday (4) Kitty and the Silver Bullet. Kitty is a werewolf (yup, kind of ironic). Every book is about Kitty and although touted as Romance, I'd say there isn't as much romance as action. And what romance there is, isn't overtly passionate. I like the series so far and plan to continue buying the books! But I would choose to read something else when I want passionate romance.
I love Paranormal Romance Books! This is a good read, and I would recomend it to anyone who loves Werewolf heros. It is not quite as good as Bitten, Stolen, etc.,. but if you are into this type of fiction, I would recomend that you read at least the frist one...."Kitty goes to Washington" is the second in this series and I am looking forward to this read as well.
