This is the ninth book in the Father John and Ms. Holden series that focuses around a found body, the new casino, the mission staff, the usual bad guys and the local Arapaho people. I have read this series in sequence and have enjoyed the characters and topical issues (mining, womens rights, militants ect.) each book reveals. Ms. Coel writes in a clean and concise manner. There has yet to be a case where I have had to flip back pages to reconnect with the story. Up to this point all of this series have been page turners and her ability to flow between story lines is praseworthy. The bad guys are not as evil as a Kirk Mitchell book or the cast is not as funny as Charlie Moon (James Doss) or as corny as Ella Chah (Thorlo) they seem to fit in the middle. If you are a fan of this genre of mystery you will enjoy this book and this series. By nine books in I have to admit that I am a little weary of having to go through the backstory everytime (alcoholism, Ben the ex-husband, the three-legged dog with the red frisbee) but to the first time reader it is necessary. If you need a book to get you through say Jury Duty or a relaxing summer afternoon Killing Raven would be a good choice.Read full review
