I own another cookbook, (if I dare say it is since it's so adorable) by the same authors and that is why I was so excited to receive Keeping Good Company. Whenever I buy a Roxie Kelley and Friends cookbook, I can't wait to sit down with a cup of tea and arm myself with Post-It-Notes. I slowly turn the pages anticipating the wonderful artwork, helpful kitchen hints, catchy phrases, pleasant stories, and another scrumptious recipe awaiting me. I tape notes on the pages that I'm dying to try out the recipe. Suffice it to say, almost every page has a yellow sticker! This book is loaded with wonderful entrees, side dishes, desserts, breads, salads, dips, and miscellaneous food items that will carry you through each season. I have already blessed others with the delicious Chocolate Chip Banana Bread from the Spring collection. You might enjoy Chicken Pasta Soup or Tex-Mex Chicken Soup with a side of Big Bird Bread Sticks for lunch. When the night air warms up, we like to BBQ. Grilled Honey-Garlic Chops or Lemon-Herb Grilled Chicken served with Strawberry and Romaine Salad complete with homemade Raspberry Poppy Seed Dressing drizzled on top sounds inviting. It feels like summer was here and gone before I got a chance to try any of the recipes featured under the Summer collection. I look forward to trying ones that include summer fruit such as Blueberry Oat Muffins, Strawberry Twisties, Pear Zucchini Bread, or Strawberry Cream Pie. For those potlucks and/or picnics in the park, try Pasta with Chicken and Squash or Mexacali Quiche. Surprise a co-worker with a mason jar of Hot Fudge Sauce or There's a Rub for barbecuing meat or poultry. Fall is in the air right now and I am looking forward to trying some of the Autumn recipes. For those cool, crisp mornings, serve a pot of coffee with Harvest Muffins with Honey Orange Cream Cheese Spread. If you like to have a warm bowl of soup for lunch, try Hearty Vegetable Soup. Dijon Pork Chops, Chicken Chili Stew or Maurice's Hot Chicken Salad are great dinner choices. There's nothing like smelling the scent of Apple Strudel or Apple Pie Pockets baking in the oven for dessert. While kindling the fires of winter hospitality, the Winter recipes look great. Try a new twist on the popular layered bean dip by trying Rothschild Layered Sombrero Dip. It calls for a special Rothschild Berry Farm Garden Salsa. They have even included a phone number as to where to buy it. If you don't want to go the extra mile to get that item, you can use any tropical salsa easily found in a grocery store. Lots of muffins, soups, and chicken entrees are featured. There are a few Christmas culinary gift ideas such as Chocolate Truffles, Double Chocolate Drizzle Sticks, Walnut Pear Muffins, and a Friendship Soup Mix. Neighbors who stop by on a frosty day might enjoy Hot Spiced Cider or Hot White Chocolate served in thick mugs with Janice's Gingersnaps. These cookbooks always end on a nice note; a bonus chapter just for fun. In Keeping Good Company, Morning, Noon, and Night features year-round favorite recipes. Very often, the authors will make comments about their recipes such as why they appreciate the recipe, whether it's from a friend or family member, or something they discovered while traveling. There's something warm and cozy about this book's array of comfort foods for all the seasonal days ahead. Enjoy!Read full review
