I'd have rather Mr. Berg spent more time delving into and talking about the true depth and personality of Miss Hepburn. I didn't care for the way the author would truly get your attention with her and then go off into another area with another individual from Miss Hepburns past. I realize all of these people had (some, very small) past connections with her, but one fails to see why so much time was wasted talking about every tiny detail in these meetings with others. I don't think one would mind this back and forth so much had Mr. Berg come away from these meethings with some real revelation for the reader. I just wanted to get back to Kate. Overall, this book does reveal much of this wonderful actress, but comes up a "tad" short for those of us wanting to get hold of the "more" we know has always been hidden from us. I'll keep searching. The Iceberg Tip has barely been touched. This intriging, complex lady will always have more to tell us.Read full review
This is a beautifully written story of the author's long friendship with actress Katharine Hepburn. Full of revealing anecdotes and Hollywood flavor, it's not gossipy or sensational; it's respectful but smart and absorbing. The author does more than tell a movie star story, he skillfully convey's Hepburn's striking and unique personality, as the story evolves from the '70s up to her death. I began the book while in a Cape Cod cottage on vacation, sice a copy had been left over from a previous renter. I didn't get to finish it, so I searched for the book on ebay when I returned home. I'm so glad I read it all because it is a memorable book and one that I'm glad I own.
This book was delightful with many vivid and personal details of Catherine Hepburn's life but written with grace and tact. Not a vile tell all story but with so much history I wanted to go out and rent almost everyone of her films. Scott Berg made me feel as though I were right there beside him, becoming a personal friend of Kate's as well as her long time housekeeper/assistant. I wish more of the Hollywood biographies were written as thoughtfully and respectfully.
