This flushing mechanism works exactly as described. It is easy to install (in less than 20 minutes) and it works from the first time you use it. The touchless feature is especially desirable in a toilet environment because of the probable transfer of feces when you use the manual flush lever. Most public restrooms now use a similar technique to flush the toilet after use automatically; commercial applications use an actual valve activated by the flushing mechanism. Residential toilets, on the other hand usually depend on manual flushing to open a flapper valve that releases water into the cistern (bowl) of the toilet. For most of the low flow toilets, flushing is provided by pressing a button on top of (or in the wall) the flush cartridge. For these flushing units, this product can not be used. This unit is placed inside the tank and through a plastic rotating wheel, the flappear is raised (to flush) by a chain and then on the second part of rotation is allowed to close. My Touchless unit lasted nearly a year before the threads on the plastic gears stripped and made the unit useless. Luckily, I had retained my flushing lever and reinstalled it without incident. This unit appears not to be repairable and the destruction of the plastic gears forced me to give it a 4-star rating.Read full review

The concept of the product is great! I was excited to outfit my manual flush toilet to touch free set up, however after a few weeks I started getting phantom flushes. That really freaked my dog out. I should have researched the product further. The great thing is that Kohler stands by their product. I contacted tech support and they helped me to troubleshoot, gave me recommendations, and am sending me an upgrade/update kit. My 3 stars is reflective of my interactions with Kohler.

Good design not only functions, it should enhance our lives. The Kohler touchless achieves both and more. I have a typical NYC sized apartment which is small. The bathroom toilet has a push style flush that is sandwiched between the toilet side and the wall. Not the easiest to push or clean. Till now. The Kohler touchless was fast and simple to install. Including the time to watch the instructional video, I literally spent less than 20 mins installing it. Now the best part is with a swipe of a hand over the tank the toilet automatically flushes. I can only imagine how this will improve the quality of lives for those suffering from arthritis and or joint pain.

Work in an elderly high raise and the lady had arthritis and couldn't flush by herself .now all she has to do is get her hand up to the button and it sense her hand and it will flush. Plus this is easy to install almost anyone should be able to do it.

I've gone thru several of these. When I first tried the touchless toilet flush kit, there were quite a few issues, the two main ones being ghost flushing and short battery life with batteries consistently lasting for only 2 weeks. Most recently, the ones I have installed are awesome. No ghost flushing and the battery lasts for months. I stopped tracking because the batteries last for so long. Sensitivity has also improved. There is a 1" button you can place on the tank lid to indicate where to place your hand. Not necessary as I just get close to where the kit is located and the toilet will flush. But no ghost flushing. This is an awesome product!
