This is easily one of my Top 10 movies of all time. Not only does it have an amazing cast of veteran actors, it is also the breakout role for Harold Smith, stage named Jay Silverheels, who later starred as Tonto on The Lone Ranger. It is a great story of a crime lord attempting to make his escape to a pre-Castro Cuba. To add to the action, a hurricane is making things difficult for everyone. If you haven't seen this, please do yourself a favor and watch it. It will make you understand why its called a classic.

If you a classic watcher, then this is the best film to watch. Humphrey Bogart is a returning vet from the war. Stopped at the Largo hotel run by John Barrymore with his daughter in law Lauren Becall. Bogart ends up staying at the Hotel, with the Hotel owner and the daughter, who was married.Bogart turns out to be the Commander of the Hotel Owners son, who sat with him on the radio all night. A medal was awarded to Bogarts character. But being a modest man, he passed the medal onto the father. The gangsters in the film are Ward Bond and Edward G. Robinson (Johnny Rocco). A deported gangster who was staying in cuba. Robinson comes to the hotel to trade forged us currency for real cash. Bogart knew who the Rocco's of the world are. Bogart throughout the film, states, all he cares about is me, and mine, what is one more or less Johnny Rocco in the world? A Hurricane blows in trapping the residents at the hotel. A dead Police Officer blows up during the storm, 2-outlaw Iroquois indians are innocently shot for a crime they did not commit. Bogart in a climatic scene goes against Johnny Rocco. The shootout, happens aboard Bogarts own boat sailed from California to Key Largo by Bogart himself. The Santana, Bogarts own boat, his first love. His second love starred in the film with him, Lauren Becall. Watch the movie, for the rest of the fill-ins and the climatic scene with Johnny Rocco. When you watch this film, you will see, what made these actors the best at what they did. Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Becall, John Barrymore, Ward Bond. All great stars, then and now.Read full review
They knew how to make movies better back in the early days. Black and white puts things in perspective and gives a movie a sense of age, not relying overtly on vividness of picture for the sell. Bogart and Bacall with E.G. of course deliver quite quality entertainment.

This is a great movie. I am a fan of Bogart and Bacall and my favorite thing about Key Largo is Bacall because I see a sweet side of innocence you don't see in her other movies. I love her strength but to see her young innocence is refreshing and touching. Of course; being Cheyenne it always makes me angry and saddened to see fellow Native Americans depicted as savages that have to sit outside during a hurricane and called a "dirty red" that bothers me. However that is still a reality; and Bogart and Bacall treated them well.
