As a longtime fan of Johnnie Taylor, essentially listening to him since childhood from his gospel years through his Malaco releases, I was surprised to discover this set. I never knew much about his Beverly Glen recordings, but then Beverly Glen never made much of an impact except for its Bobby Womack and Anita Baker albums. The first four tracks are the best; they have more in common with Taylor's Stax and Malaco efforts, defining the true Soul spirit that made him famous. The remaining selections have more of a Disco vibe are fine, although they sound more like leftovers from his tenure at Epic/Columbia. Still, a must have for the Johnnie Taylor fan. These songs deserve to be heard on radio. And, Hopefully, someone will decide to discover more of the Beverly Glen library.
