'Sands of Iwo Jima' COULD be one of the Duke's finest... as far as his modern war films goes, but it fell a little short. My Dad was in the Marines and he was stationed at several of the islands that the Marines hopped on their way to japan. His recollections of Iwo Jima were a little different than what was portrayed in the movie! It could have been a little better, but considering the budget and the time of the making, I guess it will have to do.
