I loved this book when I checked it out from the library and decided I had to have a copy for my very own. So much of today's decorating shows shock you with color and modern or contemporary designs and the palettes and patterns are so busy. Jessica's approach to decorating creates a relaxed, luxurious atmosphere using pale palettes and unifying each room with the other rooms of the house. Those who gave negative reviews because she has money don't understand the concept of luxury. As another reviewer stated, 'it's not about budget, it's about approach'. Anyone can adjust Jessica's concepts to meet their decorating budgets using thrift and shopping savvy or, if you are fortunate enough to have a larger budget, go all out. Jessica shows you have to create a beautiful, romantic, restful atmosphere in any size home or apartment.Read full review
I bought this book, hoping it contained decorating concepts that could be applied to my own personal home decorating. Instead, the book is little more than a photographic brag book for Ms. McClintock. It is filled with descriptions and photographs of her many wildly expensive purchases at antique auctions, etc. Unless you are a multi-millionaire, you cannot hope to duplicate her vintage Victorian home, which is filled with French antiques. She is a wealthy woman, who can afford to indulge her whims and decorating preferences. However, the average person can only dream about living like this. The photography in the book is beautiful. But, if you buy the book, don't expect much more than a photo album.
One of the finest and most elegant visuals for romantic decorating. Excellent blend in furniture elements. The blending palette of nutural colors gives each room a unique yet tied in flow. Furniture arrangement is awesomely done. The most impressive is the lighting used through out this resource book. The book cover is a beautiful as the references awaiting inside, making it a great item for display.
This is probably one of the few interior decorating books that impelled me to actually READ it from cover to cover. I first discovered it at the library and bought it because I found it helped to show luxury has less to do with the finances and more to do with your approach. Also, unlike the speed decorating of HGTV, this can be a gradual and pleasant process. I have done wonderful things in my 600 sq. ft. thanks to Jessica's assistance. I look forward to the continued transformation of my space.
This book is a great example of design and beauty. It is full of beautiful full color photos of some breath taking antique furnishings and accents. It's a journey into opulence! I loved the vintage fabics and lace furniture and objects. If you like antiques and appreciate decorating with them, then this is the book for you. I highly recommend this book for those who love design, antiques , art and even fashion. It is a lovely book that you will find yourself looking at over and over again!
