this book is good as general knowledge for the java language. with this fact at hand, i would say it is not so much as a good introductory book. it is a bit heavy. there's a lot of reading and may be discouraging to novice programmer. however, i do like how with in each example, the author goes through the problem step by step. i'd say pick up a couple of dummies and a absolute beginner's book in java before attempting this book and get a thorough understanding of how object oriented programming works and then use this book to view some of the possibilities this language can offer.
This is very good book for learning java. It has some good and simple examples. I'd recommend the this book if somebody wants to learn java.
