Love the E-8. It is the entry level product for Jura and has all of the same guts at virtually all of the other's up to the Z-6. We use it in the office of 10 and it functions great. Unlike the S series which has two heating elements, the time to heat the milk and changeover to heat the coffee water can take 20 seconds. It's not a big deal unless there are 4 people waiting for coffee. If you love using hot milk (latte) or froth (cappuchino) you will like this. It is advisable to purchase the additional froth kit and the larger milk pitcher (insulated like a thermos) if you will be using this often.
The coffee is without a doubt the best cup I've had in years! The steam wand needs a different tip to produce the quality of froth desired, but that can be easily purchased seperately. It's very easy to clean after a day of multiple uses. The displays convey clear and concise instructions that a four year old could perform. I definitely will be buying only jura-capresso products from now on!
It does everything for a tired mom of two trying to save money by not going to Starbucks every morning. It makes individual, fresh cups of coffee for husband and guests, makes my cafe mocha, will do regular or decaf in a second - it's great. Love the filtered water container and storage for grounds. When my husband first bought it I freaked out at the cost, but it's since paid for itself, two times over, with the savings from buying a specialty coffee every morning. After seeing and tasting from ours, my mom bought one, our neighbor bought one to replace their other-brand specialty coffee maker and even our grandmother bought one!
After having it for 8 months I'm still very pleased with the coffee it produces. It is easy to use, but you should read the directions thoroughly and watch the DVD. It is less wasteful as it only brews one cup at a time. It requires expensive water filters that need to be replaced every 3 months and cleaning tablets. They are easily purchased online.
We have had one of these for a number of years. I would rate the quality of coffee HIGH and the convenience HIGH, but the quality of the machine LOW. We have had to send it in once for "refurbishing" which cost about $250. Less than 6 months after that the grinder motor completely burned out, sending smoke and sparks and burned bushing/insulation smell wafting into the air. I'm an electrical engineer and I took it apart to verify, and indeed, the motor is fried (and not due to any rock in the beans or anything, you can see that the brushes are gone/burned up). I asked to purchase just the motor to fix myself and Jura refuses to sell it--which I find hugely annoying. This is our second Capresso, I don't know that I would buy a third.
