I'm glad there's a guy like Linsner in the world of comics. Between him, Terry Moore, and David Mack, the world of comics is all the better for creating strong, female characters who don't all look like super athletes with super boob jobs, if you'll pardon the crude description. I think all comic artists could take a few lessons from Mr. Linsner. Yet another worshipper of the great Frank Frazetta, his mastery of the human figure, especially of the female persuasion is well, very persuasive. Beyond that, his imagination knows no bounds, pushing the envelope to where, for example, the symbols of organized religion are downright uncomfortable. In the book he says that his character Dawn is the symbol of the goddess entity. He doesn't come right out and says that's what he believes, but as the expression goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. This book is just filled with oodles of them, and most are of Dawn in one form or another. Sure, they are sexy, sensual, and in some, topless, so this isn't for kids. My only criticisms is first, that I wish I could see more of the process of how he creates his masterpieces. He shows one example, but I would have liked to have seen more sketches and the like. Oh well, the cover says the Art, not the Sketchbook. Second, he only has a few men. If you're going to create beautiful women, at least balance it out with a bit more "beefcake", as he says in the book. If you're going to satisfy one crowd with one thing, don't leave the rest of us hanging! Other than that, it's a feast for the eyes for both artists and horny guys alike. Hey, I'm not afraid to say it. Sex sells, but at least he has a good story to go with it.Read full review
If you can't get enough of Joseph Michael Linsner's DAWN art, this is your last chance for satisfaction. There is more than enough beautiful art work here to satisfy the most rabid fan boy. Is there ANYONE who can draw beautiful women better than JML? And let's face it; you can't afford to buy the original works that are collected in this one volume unless you don't own a car and are not having to pay for gas! All his best works are here, folks. Simply breathtaking.
I didn't expect it to be an oversized book. It is incrediably beautiful. His artwork is amazing and the personal descriptions are awsome! By far one of my favorite pieces of his work! I would recommend it for any Linsner fan!
