This is an incredible story about the love between a father and a son. It is a story about commitment. It is the true story of Dick and Rick Hoyt (a. k. a. Team Hoyt). The Hoyt's are the epitome of proactiveness! The letters C-A-N are never followed by an apostrophe T with this duo. They race in marathons and triathalons. Which at first may not seem to be all that special, however, Rick has cerebral palsy and he is in a wheelchair. He has no use of his arms or legs. His father pushes him in his wheelchair so that he can participate in the races that they run. In triathalons, including the Ironman, Dick pushes Rick in his wheelchair, totes him on his bike, and pulls him in a raft when swimming. Also, carrying him inbetween the transitions. They still finish in the upper half of the pack! An amazing testament to the human spirit! The book goes over the Hoyt's life story and some of the "mountains" they faced after Rick's birth, beginning with the doctor's doom and gloom prognosis for Rick. But the Hoyts met every challenge with hope. They did not let the circumstances dictate their response. They could tell by the look in Rick's eyes that he understood what was going on around him. They didn't give up on him. Dick and Judy Hoyt wanted to include Rick in all that they did so that he could have as normal of a life as everyone else. They did just that. Their message is simple and it boils down to three little words "Yes, You Can!" I recommend this book to anyone who is facing a "mountain" in their own life. You will be inspired by the Hoyt's story.Read full review
