I bought this movie on DVD recently from Ebay. I wanted to see this movie originally when it was in the theaters but never got around to it. I really enjoy movies based on true stories. I especially like Bette Midler (this is the main reason that I wanted to see this movie.) The movie ended up okay. It seemed to lack a thickening plot. It just sort of briefly summarized the author's life in this story. It would have been better if it was more drama than comedy. I was glad to have seen it once. Bette Midler made this movie alittle better than what it really is.
This movie tries to take a person who was selfish, self centered and obsessed with becoming famous and turn them into some kind of role model for the world to admire. Upon learning she'd acquired breast cancer, she strongly curses God and actually lays blame on him that he is causing her life to end before she is able to achieve success. This is a person who wanted everything on her own terms even her dying day. The only thing sad about this film is that is was based on a true story.
It is really entertaining.

Wow, this is a nice movie. It stars Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. Its a great story about Jacqueline Susann who is the author of Valley of the Dolls. Florence is one of her best friends played by Stockard Channing. A great biopic about Jacqueline Susann!
