I'm a fan of non-fiction books. If I'm going to spend my time reading something, I want to learn something. After seeing the movie Breach, I decided I wanted to learn more about Robert Hanssen. Sometimes Hollywood tells an embellished tale, so I wanted to see what they maybe missed. Once into the book, it was hard to put down. Reading usually makes me tired, but somehow I was able to read for longer periods of time when reading this book. My wife even remarked how fast I read this book! The author, Lawrence Schiller, with investigative help from Norman Mailer, lays the book out year by year. He never drags a year out, for pages sake, which makes me happy. Bottom line is, if you like spy stories, you love this one. I've never attempted to write to a prisoner before, but will do so in this case. I watch enough Discovery Channel to know that all prisoner mail is opened. That doesn't bother me. I'm just curious enough to see what he'll say when I ask him if he indeed was bored? Feel free to contact me, stevedrakeinseattle@msn.com, and see if I was able to communicate with Robert Hanssen. Stay tuned!Read full review
This booked is based on the single worst spy in U.S. history. Unfortunately the two men that wrote it were much more interested in Robert Hansen's sexual escapades than the damage he did to the U.S. and the lives he cost. In fact I think that it would be accurate to say that this book was indeed written by two dirty old men.
Good book, but a little graphic for my tastes concerning the spy's sexual interests. Would have been great if these things ( which aren't important ) out. Doug W. Orlando, Fl
