Cheap way to speed up an older socket 775 motherboard. Slightly faster than a regular chip & it will run 64 bit operating systems-if you need too. If you decide to use this chip, you may need a Bios update, as I did. Also, use all the memory the motherboard can handle. I am using it with Windows XP-Pro 32 bit, for home movie conversations and this system is very stable for this type of use. I have much faster computers, but not as stable as this older setup for my movie conversations use. This setup is with an older Intel socket 775 motherboard, Pentium D 925-3GHz dual core, 3GB of memory and Win XP, Pro.,32 bit, using movie capture hardware & conversation software. Setup works flawless for me, the past two years, and now have same setup on three computers. I could go with a faster dual core, but would spent more money, thus the four star rating and not a not a five rating.Read full review
I am very pleased with this CPU. It brought new life and faster speed to a Compaq that I found on the side of the road. The only downside is not of the item but of the lack of XP support for the pc. I installed Ubuntu instead of dealing with glitchy drivers and weird hotfixes with Windows. Thanks for reading.

Had an older Celeron that always seemed to running at 80% with the fan going full bore even with just the occasional internet surfing and some accounting work. I wasn't ready to replace the computer just yet, so I picked this up instead. If your motherboard doesn't support Core 2 processors, then this is a great upgrade to breathe new life into that old PC.
Old slow 1.8 single. Newer Pentium D, 2 single-core dies packaged in a multi-chip module. First generation of 2 internal in 1 external package. Not core 2 duo. p4 is available up to 3.4 hot single core. I chose newer cooler multi core. Core 2 duo will not run in this board. All 3 chips are lga 775. Speed increase is very noticeable. Faster ghz cpu is available but cost prohibitive late 2012. Might be 64 bit. Pleased with pentium d 925 3 ghz.
I bought this item for a computer I was going to build for a friend and It worked like a charm for him it was a upgrade from his old athlon single core. IT IS NOT FOR CPU HEAVY PROCESSES mainly because it really isn't that powerful but if you're looking for something just to give you an edge for your old single core machine this is a CPU for you.
