I give it a 4/5 rating because it is good at being a 2.2g processor. The truth is it's old and hasn't been mainstream for some time, and unless you have a specific niche for this CPU it would be best to look at more current offerings. This is a decent CPU for everyday use but it would be a big step up for users who have have a Celeron or single core CPU and want more power without buying a new computer. I used this in a Dell Vostro 200 running a 1.6g Celeron and the difference was night and day. This CPU was the single best upgrade choice I could make in the $45-$50 range.
Installing this processor doubled my desktop's PassMark score and reduced CPU heat dissipation by a third compared to the Pentium D 805. With the cost below $35 it made sense for me to extend the life of the old desktop rather than throwing it away since it had a low end video board and 4 GB RAM in it already. The BIOS automatically accepted the processor and the mechanical installation is straightforward. There is lots of guidance on the net for the procedure. Chose the E4500 because it was the fastest clock CPU that would work in my motherboard.
Intel has rocked the boat with the core 2 line of processors. I usually test them panning through the Google Earth Maps and up through the Pentium D line, all maps pixelate while panning. The Core 2 Duo Processor does not pixelate at all, and unlocked a new program function, the flying bird eye, which shows the terrain features as you fly over, just as if you were in a helicopter. This function requires a lot of processing power and the Core 2 Duo 2.2 does just fine at it. I also tested it with a 2.6 C2D and the difference is negligible, so obviously the 2.2 E4500 C2D exceeds the requirements. The E5400 is the best of the inexpensive C2D line and it has overclocking capabilities. The 2.4, 2.6 and 3.0 are great, but come at almost double the average price of the 2.2. If you're looking for a fast processor for home and office tasks, don't spend any more, this one will do just fine.Read full review
This is an excellent processor for the average user. If you are a gamer look for something with more punch. This processor runs cool when properly heat- sinked and is very stable in all but the largest of PDF files we have worked with here. It will overclock easily if that's important to you. Our giving it 5 stars reflects it's proper installation and use as indicated at Intel's web site. We buy and sell these products here and have not had a problem with a used core 2 processor. They are excellent products when used as outlined. Stay away from overclocked processors.
Processor doesn't work. I tried to negotiate but he doesn't want to exchange or return it. I bought this processor and put it in the socket of my motherboard. When I turn on the computer the computer shows some kind of error and won't work. Then I put in my old processor and it works fine. But the seller doesn't want to take his processor back.
