The title pretty much says it all. The hi-res screen is *beautiful*. The performance is more than adequate (subjectively, about on a par with the Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 that this replaced). The unit I bought shipped with Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop) and given that Best Buy has discontinued the Insignia line of tablets (and never gave very good support originally), it's doubtful that it will ever get any updates or upgrades going forward. The two big problems are battery life and external SD card access. Out of the box, I was getting 3-4 hours of screen-on-time and losing 30% of charge overnight. I managed to root it (you have to do double-backflips through hoops to do it, but it *is* possible) and tweak it so that the battery drain on standby is minimal (3-5% overnight), but the best I can do for screen-on-time is 4.5 hours or so. The SD card access problem (many apps can't write to the SD card) is partly baked in to Android Lollipop (presumably to "improve" security), and partly unique to this system (you need to format the SD card as NTFS instead of the more common FAT32), Once rooted I was able to use FolderMount to allow storing and accessing things like music, books, and videos on the SD card. All of that said, at 60 bucks or so, this is an incredibly good buy since I use it mainly for reading and web surfing in the evening. At bedtime, I just stick the charge cable back in for the night.Read full review

It is impossible to update any tablet, made by Insignia. I wish I woulda found out everything I have realized before I bought this price. The screen freezes constantly, and I guess it skips or gets stuck, sounds like a scratched CD. It is a bad buy period.

First went to BB to check out different wifi tablets. Tested all brands in the same size I wanted (8", don't like the tooooo big screens since it difficult to write/maneuver while I'm watching tv). Of course you have the name brands that are too expensive. Like this one because its cheap and offer similar photo quality as of the too expensive brands and its processor is kina fast. Once I made up my mind on the insignia brand (size, speed, options, quality, looks, etc.), I compared prices on BB and eB. Saw this tablet at a good price in eB and was convinced because it stated it looked new. I did have some minor scratches and blemishes, but once I bought its cover, you can't see them. Now the screen is important to me; this came flawless. Great buy.

The tablet itself it well built and feels good in the hand. The screen is vibrant and clear. The battery life isn't the best. Insignia did not do that great of a job optimizing the rom to take full advantage of the RK3288 chipset. Good for what it is though.
