This is a fine companion to the other books on the history of this amazing American company. If you're interested in understanding twentieth century technology, then you should understand nineteenth century technology. These fellows invented and developed products that are still in everyday use after 160 years...quite an accomplishment. Some details are outlined in this very readable book. A good buy.

This was a very enjoyable 1 hour read. Jinks knows as much or more than anyone else about S&W history (he is the S&W historian). Probably more. If S&W history is of interest, this is for you. I wish that he would write a book on S&W target pistols, too. IMHO, all of his books are worthwhile.
For someone that`s into S&W this book gives more interesting information about a great handgun company.....
At 128 pages and about 9" x 7" this is certainly not the longest or largest book ever written on Smith & Wesson. However it makes up for that by combining a detailed history of the company with many illustrations and photographs, a good number of which do not appear in the dozen or so other S & W books I have seen. Anyone wanting a "coffee table" S & W book should look at one of the larger format books instead. Although there are usually 2 photographs/illustrations to every page in the Jinks & Krein book they are all in black and white. This book is highly recommended for those who have an interest in the history of the S & W business and the people within it between 1852 and 1965 as well as the firearms they made. The book is good value for money and is likely to find its way onto the shelves of every S & W collector or aficionado because one of the co-authors, Roy G Jinks, is the official S&W historian and has written extensively on the company and its products.Read full review
