I have always tried to keep noise levels under control and you know it is a battle if you have a hot valve amp and stomp boxes. I use the G String as follows Dunlop wah/volume, Tube Screamer, Line 6 Verbzilla, MXR Stereo Chorus, MXR 6 band EQ, BBE Sonic Stomp, Polytone tuner, Deciminator G String. My amp is a Blackstar Artisan 15 w/no effects loop and the Deciminator instructions show how to hook it up w/ or without an effects loop and that is cool. I use an LP Special w/P90s or a strat w/Evans single coil pus. The Artisan is pretty hot compared to their other amps and I was concerned w/the added noise of single coils plus the usual noisy guys (Wah, Screamer and MXR EQ). You really have to dial it in so you don't cut off your sound too soon. If you get it wrong it sounds like any other gate. It depends on how much you are willing to give up, but it does track well. It does a good to very good job, very simple to operate. It is pricey. It will not solve world hunger, but it may well be worth a try if you have a bunch of pedals and use a Marshall, Blackstar or the like. Try it w/your set up before you buy it. I have a rackmont Hush from the 90s and this is better and I will be using this one on the pedal board going forward.Read full review
best noise pedal available and i recommend you just save up and get the ISP rather than getting any other pedal. my only complaint about the G-String is it ONLY works if you use it both in front of your amp AND the effects loop -- it cannot be used on an amp without an effects loop. i didn't realize this when i bought it, so i still have to keep my other ISP decimator (non-G-String) for use with some of my amps. i was hoping to sell that one. the perfect solution would be 2 ISP Decimator II G-String pedals -- one in front of the amp and one in the loop. but this pedal is very, very good at what it does. does not color your tone at all and the single-dial control couldn't be simpler or more effective.

I'm very happy with this pedal. It does one thing and does it very, very well. I can hardly believe how smart it is in holding the sustain until just the right moment when the hum from my single coil strat finally overwhelmed the tone. It's like this thing reads your mind. There are, however, a couple things that could be improved. Although a fairly simple pedal, the manual is sparse and misleading. The last signal flow diagram of the directions card seems to imply that this pedal can be used as an effects bypass looper as well, however it will not work this way. Also, this pedal is designed to listen to your clean guitar dynamics directly for tracking before noise-inducing effects, but actually gate the sound after those noisy pedals. It is just what is needed when using distortion pedals that noise gates can have trouble tracking. This is great and unique amongst noise gates, and why I chose this pedal in particular. However, there may be times when this is not necessary and you just want to keep things simple with one only cable in and one cable out. Unfortunately, with this particular high end model of Decimator, you cant do this without another patch cable awkwardly looping around to connect the "guitar out" to the "decimator in." It would be nice if there was a switch somewhere on the exterior that would make that connection for you without having to resort to using a patch cable. That said, this pedal is so good and does just what you need it to that I can only give it a 5 out of 5.Read full review
I've had noise problems from the distortion and compressor pedals on my board for years. My Marshall JMP amp (1979) doesn't have an effects loop, but with a little research, I found that the ISP Decimator II G String sounded like the ideal solution to eliminate noise through the board - it turned out to be fantastic! The pedal allows you to first supply the guitar's unaltered input level, which it uses in calculating the noise threshold. I then routed it just to the pedals that were causing the problem. That signal then comes back through the Decimator and is routed out through the rest of the board and out to the amp. I adjusted the Threshold control on the Decimator (-40 in my case) and - bango! - noise gone. The beauty of this set-up is that only the pedals that were the problem are treated by the Decimator, with the rest effectively downstream and bypassed. And, the noise was eliminated without affecting the level or output quality of the distortion and compressor pedals. I highly recommend this product.Read full review

This is by far the best Noise Reduction pedal I have ever used! It is nice that you can dial it in to your liking or have it off during quiet parts of the music when it's not needed.
