I have had to replace an old CPU E5506 in my DELL Precision T5500 server. One day it just would not boot, the power button was flashing amber, the chassis displayed fault codes 2, 3, 4 and the front fan panel was spinning madly. Having spent several days reading about this rather poorly documented issue I concluded that it was either motherboard or a failed CPU. Luckily it was the latter - see the first screenshot. Honestly, it was the first time I have lost any CPU due to thermal failure, I have been working with various computer sets since early days of Pentium II when CPUs had less power than an average smartphone nowadays. I use the server mostly for lab testing, network simulations in GNS3 etc, there are always several things running at the same time. The new CPU works flawlessly, even with the factory heatsink. The workload is spread evenly among all six cores, the temperature stays well within recommended range, no crashes or anything that would keep me awake at night. The server now practically runs 24/7. Perfect buy and fantastic value!Read full review
