So far, my experience with the book has been good. I like how they have etymological derivations listed when defining anatomical terms (for instance, giving the Latin or Greek word and what it means, as part of the derivation of the English word). This really helps me a lot in understanding and remembering the terms, since I have a foreign language background. Also, I enjoy how they incorporate illnesses and their causes as part of the anatomy explanation, relating to what goes wrong in the anatomical realm during illness. I bought the book because it was required in a college class which I am taking presently. To this point, I have not found any noticeable flaws within the book. I have used this book for approximately 1 month now.
It was a required text for my Anatomy and Physiology class and it reads like a textbook with lots of clinical references in the Chapters. To be honest my professor teaches from an outline and rarely requires the use of this textbook beyond just a basic reference to get more detail on the subjects that he tests on. It is well organized and has helpful pictures to help student understand process such as translation and transcription, the ossification of bones ect. BUT I would never decide to read it on my own without the professor guiding us through the subjects first because the information itself is so complicated. My biggest level of irritation with this book is the fact that all the supporting textbooks are pretty much exactly the same pictures and information and so we are paying hundreds extra just for a change in format. My professor also seems to believe that there are some errors in the book. Overall it is a good textbook, buy it used from ebay though, dont spend $150 at the bookstore. I purchased mine for $20.00 and will probably make a profit when I sell it back to the bookstore.Read full review
I bought this book for my Anatomy class it was a require text book. I have owned a few anatomy books over the years and I rather like this one the best so far. The book is very detailed and the picture grafics are excellent. Very up to date. It focuses on the body sustems with study questions at the end of every chapter and the answers in the back. This way you ae more prepared for a test . The CD- ROM is very heplful. Overall i wll never sell it back. a good book to have as a reference guide in the future.
Marieb's Anatomy and Physiology is an exceptional work. She really puts her heart and soul in this book. I took a college course in Anatomy and Physiology and found this book not only to help me make an A in my course, but it also sparked my knowledge of Anatomy. The pictures included in this book really help emphasize the wonder of the Human System. However, if you need this for Anatomy, most teachers will accept the 2003 edition and the only variances are the page numbers.( I think that they are 2 page numbers behind the new edition.) However the 2003 edition is made available at a fraction of the cost! Best of luck to the future doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and those concious of our human anatomy and physiology after reading this book!
The text is very well laid out and comes with many tools such as the CD Rom and detailed Lab Book. The author has written many editions of this book, and it seems to be popluar around the country at many universities and local colleges. It is very important to make sure that if you purchase this book that the CD rom is unopened and unused, otherwise you have to pay for an additional license at a small fee.
