This older printer turned on as stated. I hoped that it might be usable not just for parts. So I was taking a chance that did not happen. The book, software wasn't sent with printer. Took a chance, but will use it for a part need on another printer.

This is a fantastic printer in terms of utilizing 6-color ink and has a very easy interface and powerful desktop software. The quality of the photos and copies is remarkable. HOWEVER, beware HP customer support and be careful where you buy this printer. You need to make sure your printer is regionally coded for your area so you can buy ink. Mine was sold to me encoded for Japan instead of the U.S. and I am now unable to obtain replacement ink because each ink cartridge has a microchip (which also forces you to buy new HP brand ink cartridges). After about 8 attempts emailing/calling/chatting Customer Support at HP, they are still unwilling to even talk to me about having a support issue, let alone actually address the issue I have. Beware HP customer support for this printer. If you buy it at Staples or another US company which has the correct regional encoding, this printer is a great printer.Read full review
This is the same model printer I had that wore out. That worked with old and new computers. The new one only works with the new computer. All of my data base for the past 20 years in on the old computer and the new printer is listed as Series 4 and doesn't do what I need it to do.

I got one of these printers with the correct working rollers, so paper handling has been just fine. As a Long time user, you should know that this printer really uses ink. I replaced the Magenta after 56 pages of mostly black and white printing. I phoned HP about this. Their solution was to replace all the cartridges as a trial. They were not surprised by my issue. The need to replace is not based on any usage of the ink in the printer. I believe the cleaning cycle is responsible for ink consumption. Customer service told me they do not warrant the printer to achieve any rate of ink performance per page. Also these cartridges have a chip so they expire on the shelf and in the printer. Remember you can't print if any of your ink cartridges are low, and you will find that one of them will be low most of the time. As a long term HP fan, and long term HP printer user, I am sickened by how expensive (CAD$ 27/cartridge) the printing costs of this expensive printer are and how often my printing is interrupted by the need to change cartridge.Read full review
