The book was nice, has a lot of illustrations and explains how to rebuild a couple of popular transmissions including a Honda and Acura. It gives a basic lay out of what to look for on the parts and see if they are worn beyond repair or should be replaced. You will need at least a basic mechanical knowledge on how everything works to sometime understand parts of the book. Also, it gives you at the end a part explaining how to modify transmissions for race cars. Pages, covers and pictures are good quality not like the Chilton books. I hope this helps.
I was hoping for a manual that would show what the different gears would be required to get certain output. I already know the basics, but I wanted something that would be a compilation of all the info. Different gears, what the part numbers would be, etc.

A friend of mine had one of these books so I've used it before, They are a great book for first timers building a T-5 transmission, It does lack a little refrence but easy to find that info on the computer, Overall these are great book
Much introductory text about the purpose of transmissions.Book contains good basic information about the design and physics of gears, bearings and synchronizers. Unless you have a T5 or Honda transaxle, there is nothing that would lead you to use this book as an overhaul manual. For half the price of this book I purchased a used GM manual which tells me all I need to know.
This did help but I ended up with a bent shifter and the book did not specify anything about that. I also ended up finding a website with really good pictures after I bought this, so it was useful and pictures are nice!
