This is my first review on-line. I write as a seminary trained, evangelical chaplain who is pretty widely read-just for you to know the perspective from which I rate this book. I have this and How to Read the Bible for All it's Worth right next to my Bible. It is scholarly but very readable for a lay person, not a commentary but good background information to keep in mind before you dive into any given book of the Bible. Also has brief summaries for segments of each book. I've heard Fee speak and found him to be learned and humble with a pastor's heart. I've given some copies to friends and family who are young and/or young in the faith with the hope it will keep them encouraged to pick up the scriptures more readily and see feel a bit more at home as they read, study and meditate.
I was very impressed with the quality of the book.

We needed it for a homeschool class and are just starting to read it. This is an overview, not deep, not a bible study.
