I bought this hard drive to replace the drive on an old laptop and it was the last thing to upgrade on the machine. This drive was one of the largest capacity 2.5" IDE drives I could find. The performance is much better than the 10+ year old drive it replaced, but still not as good as the newer SATA drives, but it serves the purpose for which I bought it. I use this machine for traveling and vacations so I don’t need a lot of storage space and it doesn’t need to be a super computer. I have two other laptops I use for work and daily use and use Hitachi drives in them as well. They just make a good quality product in my opinion.
Nice upgrade from '98 40G portable. Wanted to keep laptop going with 32 bit Linux. Surprised drive still available. Great for communication should primaries fail. 2 Old 40g's, one failed other slower disk speed.

Hitachi's 0A28418 drive is the perfect upgrade for any aging machine that needs hard drive space. With its 8MB of fast cache and 5400 RPM platter speed, it provides vast storage and fast performance with a best-in-class power saving design. This drive was purchased as a replacement for an IBM ThinkPad T42p. It was supported by the Active Protection System and halts perfectly. My only complaint is data access is slightly loud without any insullation. Its fine in the T42p, but it was relatively loud testing with a USB adapter. Don't let this deter you, its a GREAT drive!
Good Item For The Price! Tested in Dell Latitude D600. Works very well but is little bit noisily.

Got this HDD for an old IBM ThinkPad. After some testing, it works as expected. No errors, no bad blocks. Good value for the price.
