History - America's Greatest Hits was first released in 1975. I still have it on vinyl and this is my first c.d. My wife brought up a good point, "We don't have a record player in the car". Man smart--woman smarter. In 1972, America burst on the music scene with "Horse With No Name", which stayed at #1 for three weeks. America also won the Best New Artist award at the Grammys the same year. "I Need You" and "Ventura Highway" both made it into the Top 10. Who can't drive the Ventura Freeway in California without singing that song. The convertible on a Summer day is optional. In the Winter of 1973, "Don't Cross The River" stayed in the Top 40 for a couple of weeks. Top 5 singles "Tin Man" & "Lonely People" fared much better in 1974 and '75 respectibly. The Spring of 1975 "Sister Golden Hair" took America back to #1, their last. Flying me back to Memphis, great line from "Daisy Jane". All of the above are included in this package along with tunes from their first three albums. In 1976, Dan Peek left America for a career in Contemporary Christian music. "You Can Do Magic" hit #8 the Summer of 1982, but it isn't included in this Warner Brothers Greatest Hits compilation. At the time, America had changed record labels to Capital. America does have other greatest hits packages, but this is the one to get. It features Dan Peek, Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell...together, forever.Read full review
Hey man ! If you only buy one CD America album, make it this one. If you are reading this, you are like me. I dug them in high school but never owned an album of them. Now that I am into storing MP3 and downloading to my player, I am buying "best of" CD's of some of my old favs. I did some research after seeing them in concert again and found that the best songs were on this album. There are other America best of albums out there but the extra songs and extra costs are a waste. This Album has the best songs of the era..... and the best thing about it, is there are no hisses or pops! YOU know what I mean ?! You can pick up a "brand new" album for under 10 bucks to the door, due to the fact most of the buying public has moved on. It's well worth it. Look around on Ebay, I just saw one for under $4 to the door. This is best way to get America's greatest hits on the quick and cheap. Peace. JOHN 14:6Read full review
"A Horse With No Name", "Ventura Highway" (how can you not like a song that has alligator lizards in it, not be good), and Sister Golden Hair" are the best songs on the album. For the most part, the rest of the album is easy rock.

One of the VERY BEST cd's I have ever purchased. Great for driving , background music to clean etc. All songs are kinda like Dan Folgelberg's greatest, you didn't realize the song you loved so much was not only a song by them, but had a name that was unrecognizable. If you get a chance "Sister Golden Hair Surprise " is not the only really good song this Band sung, BUY IT !
Muscrat Love, Horse with no name, and more fabulous songs by America. Used to listen to this group when I was younger and just drift away to the melodies these guys produce. Nothing better to mellow you out after a hard days work or play than these smooth harmonies. Bringing back sooo many GOOD memories. Thanks ggbenson =^-^=
