My use is stereo with subwoofer. The quality of music is ok, my luxman was superior. I also watch tv with this setup. The HK has obvious advandages, quality of video, ease of use. Trade-offs.

setting everything up can be very confusing I bought mine thinking it was newer then a 2007 and because it was an '07 there were no set-up codes for any of the things that I have like my T.V. cd player etc..so it gets 3.5 out of 5 stars ...oh yea it does sound great..

The Harmon Kardon AVR 145 is very strong sounding 40 WPC RMS x 5 or 50 WPC RMS x 2 AV receiver. Underrated power if you ask me. The sound quality of this unit is very nice. Some shortfalls is that It only has one subwoofer preamp output and there are no other preamp outputs so I think this unit could have been improved in that area. Also it is a 5 channel system so for those seeking more channels you may want to look at some other options. At first I was cautious about the power rating, but I threw that idea out the window once I hooked it up and listened to some nice tracks of Estaban. I did use a powered subwoofer with this system and I do highly recommend that you do the same. The quality of the music reproduction of this receiver is outstanding - you won't be disappointed. I'm very particular about this and I wouldn't say it if I didn't believe myself. I have a video on YT that you can watch about this unit that I think would be useful in your consideration of this receiver. You'll have to search for it as I can't place the link in this review. As far as looks you can't get a more elegant look for a receiver in any price range if you ask me. Particularly looks nice in lower light environments. Perhaps a Marantz or Mcintosh will look nicer but they are in a different price class altogether you're really getting a lot of value here with this AVR 145.Read full review

I love the sound and power of the unit. I bought it for future HDMI connectivity and the reputation of Harmon-Kardon's quality and value. The refurbished unit I received looked like new. I was surprised that the unit was also loaded with old firmware which I updated with a download from their website. Another reason I bought the unit was the "EZ setup" feature that is supposed to set up the phasing, crossover, and levels of your speakers. So far I have not been able to make this work and have been trying to resolve this problem with their tech support via e-mail. They must be swamped because it takes days for them to respond, but they do respond eventually. So--don't expect to get a unit that is perfect when you buy refurbished. Overall I am pretty satisfied with this purchase and would do it again.Read full review
Harman Kardon has always had a reputation for quality and this receiver does not disappoint. Sounds great, looks great, tons of connectivity and easy to set up (IF you read the manual). The automated setup is absolutely BRILLIANT!!! My only gripe AT ALL is the standby LED - the amber light is a little too wide and bright, but it does go away if you turn off the master power switch. I replaced a [certain large Japanese manufacturer] surround receiver (that cost more) and I could not be happier; the H/K has half the rated power, but that's just "paper power". My Harman Kardon AVR 247 looks better, sounds better, and is MUCH more solidly built.
