Recently, while attempting to purchase another PC game, a friend recommended Half Life to me. Well, I'm not really much of a PC gamer, but I thought I'd do it for fun, and to pass some time. An experiment gone deadly wrong at a secret underground scientific facility called Black Mesa in New Mexico, we become the first person character fighting a desperate battle to reach the surface and safety. What an exciting adventure! The game is very linear, and with the help of some on-line walkthroughs, I have been enjoying myself tremendously with all my new virtual experiences. Very encompassing, engulfing and highly imersive, it is great for the person who has a bountiful supply of self control. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with addictive personalities, as the game has a powerful potential to rob one of living their REAL life. But, as a lark on the side, and as a virtual world one decides to enter from time to time, to fantasize a bit, it can be fun. Parents should be warned that it is a game with some blood and gore, but much of this can be eliminated by parental controls. Further, the "elimination" of enemies in the game can be determined by configuring for easy, medium, or hard (kills). Shooter games have gotten a pretty tough rap with some of the recent real-life shootings in this country, and perhaps with some good reason. It's too bad, because blowing away some fantasy enemies not only gives you a psuedo sense of revenge, but a certain sense of personal power, which for some, could be a good thing. But definitely not for the on-the-edge personality types. Generally, those who have a good handle on what is real and what is fantasy should have no problem with this game.Read full review
Only recently (2009) I saw Half Life as a MUST PLAYED GAME for me! I know, I know, it is a bit late wake up to the Half Life worldm, and the problem was that what I could find at stores was ONLY the complete collection of Half Life 2 (the orange box). So I thought was I shall do? Shall I buy the Half Life 1 first so I'll understand the plot from the beginning? I thought right. But the problem was that I couldn't find the product for purchase anywhere! So I've played Half Life 2 and it's two episodes and I was charmed... It was AWESOME! Well, what about the first game? Now I MUST know what happened back then in Black Mesa (a Half Life 1 location). But how!?? I can't find the game for purchase anywhere! Well, I've decided to go eBay and I was suprised to find out that people out there still sell the very product I desire! The Half Life 1 Complete Collection! Even if it's a used product, it's still great to own it for yourself along with your rest old PC games collection... The Half Life game is a MUST PLAYED game for any first person shooter lover out there! Half Life's world is so enormous and almost every piece of it can be destroyed with your weapons and of course with your best friend - The Gravity Gun! At first I thought Half Life is a boring game with stupid creatures I have to neutralize, but when I looked a bit closer, I've discovered that it's much, but much more than that. It's a race to save the world from another aspect, an aspect that doesn't yet finish, with some great friends you'll make during the game and of course, a love story that didn't have an apportunity to begun. If I, an adventure gamer, that hasn't been touched shooter games in the past but quest games, played this game and loved it... Then I believe anyone would!Read full review
