The phone is very, very light and thin but sturdy and doesn't feel cheap at all. It has a nice textured back that makes the phone easy to grip though I do wish it had a more rubberized feeling to it as it does slide around on my desk a bit. The power/sleep button is located on the right hand side of the phone along with a dedicated camera button which is very handy. On the left side of the phone is the volume rocker. All the buttons have a great feel to them. There is only 16GB of storage and no expansion slot so what you see is what you get. It won't be an issue for me as I used a 16GB iPhone for the last year and half plus you get 25GB of cloud storage on your Skydrive if you need to offload some pics and documents. The super amoled plus screen is spectacular. I was a bit worried that since the resolution is only 800x480 that it may not be as impressive as my iPhone 4 retina display but I can safely say that the Focus S has an equal if not superior screen to the iPhone 4. The reason I think is that the super amoled plus screen is just so vibrant and colorful that viewing it next to the iPhone just makes its screen look dull and lifeless. To be fair, the text is definitely sharper on the iPhone 4 but it was only obvious when I was looking for differences. You will have no issues at all reading the text on the Focus S. I absolutely love this OS. It feels like the future. The live tiles on the home screen are just so useful I can't believe I lived all these years without them. I have all family and friends at my fingertips and I can quickly peak to see what people are up to without having to dig through screens of icons looking for an app to launch. Brilliant. The Live tiles are something you need to experience for yourself as describing how cool and useful they are is a bit difficult. Rest assured you will love them. The entire home screen is fully customizable too. Whatever tiles you want in whatever order you want them. You can even change the color theme of the tiles too. Overall and outstanding OS so far. The Focus S comes with a 1.4 GHz single core processor. Uh oh, single core? Don't all the new Android and iPhones have dual cores? Sure they do but with Windows Phone a dual core processor is just a waste of precious battery life. This OS is not a resource hog at all and the phone zips along faster than my iPhone 4. I haven't once done anything on the phone that bogged it down. This OS is a nimble champion and I am very pleased with its performance. The camera felt fast and didnt hesitate too long between pictures. There is a cool auto fix feature that will let the phone adjust the pic which can be quickly undone if you do not like the results.. I highly recommend this phone!!Read full review
My very first impression of this device was “Wow this is very light, and feels cheap” (but nothing a good old case couldn’t fix). I also noticed the very small bezel on the sides of the screen, which is a great thing for fitting such a large screen on a smaller device. The 4.3 Inch super AMOLED Plus display is very clear and crisp. The device feels and looks just like a Samsung Galaxy SII.
An AMAZING PHONE!!! I bought this product after owning the Omnia7 and I must say what a fantastic upgrade. First, the OS is beautiful and after two years of the windows phone OS I still smile with excitement while looking at the start screen, it’s an amazing notification tool. The OS itself is buttery smooth, no hiccups or freezing with my experience from the three devices that I’ve owned (HD7, Omnia 7, and the Focus S). As for the hardware, I was afraid I got ripped off when I received my package but upon opening it I was stunned at how light the phone is, when I let people hold it they are just as stunned. The screen is beautiful with deep inky blacks to die for, however it only has 480x800 resolution like the Galaxy S II but it’s not bad at all. The battery life is decent, I squeeze about 24hrs out of it with heavy use and with battery saver on without charging overnight I can get about 2 days and 3hrs from it. In order to get the bright whites I had to go to the extra settings and turn auto display intensity off, a fact that concerned me when first playing with it in store. I could compare it to the iPhone but it’s not an iPhone, I think its best competitor is the Nokia Lumia 900, however the plastic makes the Focus S light and less likely to shatter the display glass. The sound quality is amazing with my Klipsch S4i but I seem to lack bass but does offer a clear even sound all around. The camera is very nice and 720p Video is amazing when shot in direct sunlight. What’s great to have is the 4G, while it’s not LTE I do get about 3-6mbps here in Chicago. I’m currently running it on Straight Talk using their AT&T compatible sim which gives me unlimited talk, text, and, apparently data as well for only $45 a month. With Straight Talk it took a bit of poking around to get Bing service and my Zune pass working but now that I got it I always stream over 4G with no interruptions. The app selection is decent but I suggest you use AppFlow to discover the best apps, it’s an amazing why to get the best out of the marketplace. Don’t hesitate if you spot a deal on this it is an AMAZING PHONE!!!!Read full review
This product is excellent! I brought it because of its ease of use thanks to Windows Phone Mango even though that OS is a little old. Like: -I personally used iOS (was my favorite) and Android, but with WinP Mango you can be twice as productive than the other two OS. -The screen looks super awesome; colors displayed on it looks so crisp and bright. -Weights almost nothing compared to other phones, even less than Samsung Focus Flash. -8.0MP Camera! -Can be upgraded to 7.8! Which makes it a more awesome product. (Not via Zune software) Dislikes: -Apps: Since Windows Phone Mango has gone to the past, the marketplace isn't VERY populated, although there are still a lot of useful app out there.
After using IOS and Android smartphones' over the years, the Windows Phone 7.5 is by far the most user friendly, and slickest UI I have used. It has everything you need built into it without the need for seperate apps, it's buttery smooth in scrolling and the camera is brillant. Can't wait to see what Samsung has to offer when Windows Phone 7.8 and Windows Phone 8 arrives this fall! Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight Con: Battery life
