I've found Ilford HP5 to be an excellent film for most situations with quality imaging being the norm. It can be pushed with relatively little increase in grain. It is of course advisable to stick with one film whenever possible that way you know its limitations. Over the years HP5 has been the film of choice in many colleges and universities as the literature supplied by Ilford on HP5 has been simple and extensive making it easy to manipulate the outcome. But that's another story. Overall an excellent product.
