The HP Scanjet 8250 is a great scanner. It can scan legal size documents and store them in several formats. I purchased the scanner for the auto document feeder since it allows me to scan a lot of material in a relatively short time and store it on my harddrive. For personal use it is hard to beat for the price. I dislike the fact that HP does not provide quality updated drivers and consequently making the scanner function with windows 7 is a labor of love. Still, by setting the operating system for this scanner so that it is run on Windows XP it does all that I require. Also, because of HP's lack of ambition to update the product drivers I have conflict issues with a few other programs on my computer. Overall, I am very pleased with the product despite HPs lack of support. I currently own two scanners of this model. The images produced are of excellent quality and are the best of all the scanners I have owned.Read full review
The HP 8250 Scanjet is a good large format (8.5 in. x 14 in.) scanner with useful features. You can sometimes find these at a bargain price because the product is no longer supported -- HP did not release a Windows 7 full-featured driver. Also, Ubuntu is not an option because, as another reviewer noted, the ADF won't work. However, there IS a Windows 7 driver for a similar model, the 8270 Scanjet, which you can download from the HP website and use instead. I have scanned thousands of pages and it works quite well.
I would consider this a very "hot" buy right now for anyone needing a professional, "top end" scanner. Origionally sold for just over $1000, now sold for pennies on the dollar. Works abosolutely wonderful with Windows XP and still a viable option, although not "full featured" as far as the "button assigment" and file save choices with Vista and Windows 7. With those OS's you will use the TWAIN, or WIA (Windows Drivers) for operation. Basically the scanner is quite fast with a very high 4800x4800 resolution capacity. The document feeder works very well with very few issues of jamming and includes a duplexing option. OVERALL this is absolutely a BEST scanning option for the cost. I have learned after owning 2 previous "all in one's" that it is still best to have a seperate printer and scanner if you have the space for that option as the All in One's are limited with their capabilities as well as the fact that if they break, you have to replace the entire machine.Read full review
I needed a scanner to do higher volume copies that were email compatable for my business. It had to work with XP AND Vista and my ocr software and this met the bill as well as handling normal single sheet scans, 8 1/2 x 14 (legal) and color. This works well and is affordable. Compared with an all in one printer, this is much faster and works flawlessly. I decided NOT to go with an older model as the runner feeder rollers can need refreshing--watch the number of scans on some of the older ones as the more they have done the more you can get feeder jams. All in all, very pleased.
I rate this a 5 because it does a great job of scanning. I can load a pile of items, put in the data I want it filed under and let it rip. It will label the FILES and the FOLDER and automatically files the files in the folder. I paid very little for it as it was a refurb but it works great and is much better than the EPSON scanner for massive scanning. The EPSON does more tricks and is great for one on one scanning but for WORK this is much more useful.
