As I'm retiring soon and wanted a copy machine at home, I started looking for just a copy machine, not a printer, not a fax, just a copier. My husband, the gadget nut, found this machine, HP C8180, and loved the photo printing capability. Lucky for me it also has a copier!! The set-up was unbelievably easy; I usually have problems with set-ups, this one does just about everything for you...really idiot-proof. The machine is very easy to use, produces photos with exceptional color and clarity (compared to our older HP PhotoSmart)and makes good copies, too! The slots on the front of the machine make loading digital camera chips easy; even has a CD/DVD burner built in. We really like the fact that even though we're using the machine with a USB cable, it has the capability of going wireless if/when we go wireless. The versatility was a big selling point with us. It prints in only black & white or in color with a touch of a button on the front. No more changing computer settings. Buttons on the front also select photo-print or plain print. For our home, a printer-copier would have met our needs exactly. The C8180 has a scanner built in which I doubt we'll use much. But, for us, this machine meets our needs admirably and economically.Read full review
This is my 3rd HP printer ever since I've become dangerous with a computer. My first was an OfficeJet K-80 which was an "All-in-One",then I purchased a HP C7180 for the benefit of printing pictures from 35mm film at home.I gave the OfficeJet to my son and the C7180 took a nose dive on me shortly after.(Thank God for SquareTrade because after 4 hours on telephone support with HP,they informed me my only alternative was to "upgrade" to another printer which would cost me another $140.00!!! Another story.) Overall I am very pleased with the quality of the pictures that I have printed so far. I am also pleased with it's performance concerning everday printing of email or letters. I know that there are many other printer's out there, but this one is able to print pictures from 35mm film, which is the rationale for my purchase. I have yet to do this. This printer also has individual ink holders for different colors which I think makes a major difference in how much ink will cost me in the future. This printer scans, prints letter's & picture's from my computer wirelessly, copies, prints picture's from different data storage devices, and can print labels onto your CD's as well. After about 4 hours of working on setting this up with my wireless router, it was easy to operate. I get an error message each time I start my computer because I don't leave my printer on all of the time. It may not take as long for you to set this up on a wireless router because I will admit I'm not a super computer geek. The cd set-up disc did take quite a bit of time to load up onto my computer as well. I think this is a quality that is normal with all HP printers and their software. As with my previous printer, I purchased a SquareTrade warranty due to my previous experience with HP's customer service department. Overall, I believe this to be a very good printer and you will be happy with it should you decide to purchase it. Be patient when setting it up. Good luck and Peace to All...Read full review
I was lucky in a way as I had no idea how many copies this printer had left in it! Turns out, this printer had only run 39 prints. 39!!! One problem that may have been the reason for selling was paper jams. Once good ink was installed, the printer jammed a lot. Got to looking around and found a small gear off its idler shaft! Got on Google, looked up how to get the side plate off by the gear location, got the gear back on and VOILLA! A Great printer! It is now our primary printer and 02 ink is just the way to go if you do a lot of color photo printing as certain colors always seem to run out first. And ink prices on ebay help save me $$$$$. And one other thing, this printer model is notorious for 4 bad capacitors in the power supply on the printer. (not the AC Adapter). And they are hard to replace but it can be done. There is an instruction tutorial on the Web on how to do it for this model printer.Read full review
This is the best HP. Printer I have ever owned. The picture quality is unreal. Being wireless is the best thing of all and how easy it is to conect to my laptop and cell phone for printing pictures. That was the only reason I bought it because my other two photosmart printers are not wireless. Bun now after getting this one, and seeing the quality of the prints, I do not even use the pther two at all. I think it is because of the having the new multy ink system that gives the pictures the GREAT LOOK of being done by a pro. The only thing I wish it had was the cd printing capabillity.
I won of these printers when I used to work for HP and gave it to my Mother. She has loved this printer. She is very much into scrap booking and loves all the features this printer has. She uses the scanner all the time which produces great quality images. She loves the ability to take the memory card out of her camera and print her pictures right from the memory card reader built into this printer. The quality of the photos is excellent. It is also very nice to have it connected wireless to her computer. One less USB cord is always good. The six ink cartridge is great because it cuts down the wasted ink typically thrown away unused in in the tri-color cartridges. And unique to this printer is the ability to print photos from the built in CD drive, as well as the ability to burn a back up CD of all her photos in the built in CD burner as well. So when it came time for me to buy a printer I hunted all over HP's WEB site only to learn that they don't even manufacture this printer any more and none of Thier new printers even came close to matching the features available on the C8180. In fact I was very disappointed in the personal printer line of products currently available from HP. I read many horrible reviews on almost every one of the printers currently available. A lot of cheap plastic crap. The C8180 is a very solid sturdy printer. They just don't make them like this any more. They are definitely more expensive than what you can buy from HP now, but this printer is worth the extra money. I was very happy to have found one of these printers for sale. Both my Mother and I use our printers a lot, mostly for printing photos, and we are both very satisfied with our printers. So if you are looking for excellent print quality, great features that you can't find on any other printer, and a printer that is very durable, increase your maximum bid to make sure you win high bid. You will be glad you spent the extra money. HP still charges WAY to much for their inks, but I wouldn't recommend using third party ink in your HP printer if you want consistent good quality photos. Side note, unless you buy one new in the box that has never been registered with HP before, they will not support or warranty the printer, no matter what the seller says in Thier description on eBay. I repeat, HP will not support or honor any warranty if yours is not a brand new printer that has never been registered before. But if you are the high bidder, you just bought an awesome printer. The new printers being manufactured these days are disposable plastic junk with built in obsolecense that will more than likely break down a month after the warranty has expired. They design them that way on purpose now. That's my opinion only.Read full review
