this type of printer has always been good to me and my family the only thing that I would inprove on it the plug that it has for the usb plug in over time we have found out that it gets loose and breaks once that happends you can only use the copier part of the machine not the printer part because it is broken and there is no fixing it unless you take it fully part and hope you know how to use a soldering iron to fix it but other than that this machine is a great piece there are better machines out there but this works for what we need it for.
SOLID ALL IN ONE PRINTER MEETS NEEDS The all-in-one printer market seeks to meet the needs of small business and home business by providing a one-stop experience. Printing. Scanning. Photocopy. The HP 1210v (part of the HP PSC 1200 series) goes a long way towards that goal. The usb interface supports mac, pc and to a degree linux. Set up for 600 x 600 mono prints and 4800 x 1200 dpi color prints. Top buttons access to scanning features and copying features. PRINTING Over the life a printer the most costly aspect will be the ink. It is a good bet to use an inkjet with two seperate cartridges. The HP PSC 1210v sports readily available standard HP color and black cartrides. Dual ink carts saves users money. Contrast the HP PSC 1210v to single cartridge (color cart only) all-in-one printers (such as Lexmark), though more inexpensive initially, will quickly drain the consumable color cartridge since they combine all colors to produce black and white documents. HP allows a more effecient set up with black cartridges that can be set in the driver software to be the source for B&W docs. My only complaint is that the HP software (under XP at least) does not seem to preserve settings for this "gray scale only" and always reverts to using all the cartridges color and b&w. My solution was to remove the color cart. For this the HP software nags you that you are printing in "econo" mode using black only and then proceeds to print the document. SCANNING AND COPYING The scanning portion is quick despite usb 1.1 connection speeds. Integrating the top buttongs on the all-in-one to kick of specific computing tasks is a real boon when processing a number of documents to be scanned. Scanning these to PDF was provided by the HP Director software. The buttons for Color or Black copying are easy to use and understand. Good industrial design and user interface standards. PROBLEMS Other than the software driver software being a little under featured the rather large driver install went well. Of note is tweaking the printer settings. Simple adjustments are prone to opening a bewildering array of sub-windows with minimalist options. A warning also to avoid using Ubuntu built in printer drivers as they have not matured. Attempting to print with the page margins set non standard in Ubuntu sent the printer carriage slamming and grinding. I had to replace the printer. Also a common problem is the inkwell on the left side of the carriage becoming too full. SUMMARY Despite a lack of built in fax capabilities (which with certain version of Vista lacking the capability) this is a great all-in-one Printer Scanner and Sheet Copy. It looks and performs attractively month after month!Read full review
After using the Printer for a while, I quickly discovered that I couldn't run the printer (keep the USB cord plugged into my PC) so ... I keep the USB cord unplugged until I want to print...then I plug it in just for that 1-2 page or label printing. It just doesn't work right. Beings I recently bought some ink cartridges on eBay I just don't want to buy a printed right now. It won't take the same cartridges. I did get it at a fair price, however. Love everything else about the printer; just my crazy luck.
Older model but they have worked well for me when printing graphics so I bought this one as a backup.

I purchased this as a second printer/scanner/copier for work and will likely make this my primary unit. It is compact, has easy to use features, and so far has not let me down. The ink is a little expensive - over $50.00 for the combo back (black and tri-color) at Staples. Otherwise, an excellent printer that easily fits on my desktop.
