Delighted to have this old printer. Nobody believes me but I still have a 30 year old widows 3.0 computer with old stuff that I still need.... and it needs the old printer to communicate.

The HP 6L laserprinter is a very good printer for small business and home use. This printer , printer pretty fast and the saving in toner not ink is a great deal cheaper to operater. The bad thing about this printer is that with a lot of use the paper feeder will grab to many pages and some times cause a crash. If you buy a used 6L get the rebuild kit for the paper feeder and install it or have someone else do it for you. This is the third one that I have bought and used so that tells you how much that I like this printer. So overall I would recomend this as a good printer for the money it cost to buy and the money you will save on the toner.
This is a great old printer. The one I received was clean, complete, and works great. The only problem this problem these printers ever had was software support. Drivers are available on open source.

This printer provides GREAT quality...but it tends to overfeed and jam. Feed roller needs to be cleaned at least every 5000-7500 copies; feed from toner is uneven (lots of toner left when blank spots begin to appear). In summary, If you have (a) a smoke free (b) climate controlled (c) animal free environment, and you don't print a lot, this is a great machine. Also, repairs of this unit are cheap and easy.
I've had my LaserJet 6L since 1998. In the 13 years that it's been my primary printer it hasn't had a single paper jam. It DID show the multiple feed problem that these were guilty of, but that was fixed with a free kit from HP. I ordered 2 kits to be on the safe side, and the 2nd kit has been sitting unopened for about 12 years. I'm currently on my 3rd toner cartridge. A new cartridge retails for $75 from HP, but a NEW OEM toner can be found for under $40 elsewhere (including Ebay). OEM inkjet cartridges can cost much more than that (in one case it was cheaper for me to buy a new printer). The only drawbacks to this printer are the facts that it can't print in color (thus the need for a 2nd printer) and the parallel interface (a USB to parallel adapter can fix that). One last thing to mention. I recently retired from my 31 year job as a senior programmer/analyst. During the last 10-15 years I spent a lot of time working from home. This meant that the LaserJet was in use far more than the average home printer.Read full review
