This laptop model (and also others from HP) is well known to have an issue with an ATI video chip in BGA package that will fail overtime. This is a total design fault from HP with inadequate heatsinking for a chip with such high power dissipation. The CPU and video chip are basically cooled through the same heatsink/fan assembly. Whoever designed this thing should be long fired !! The video chip will basically unsolder itself from the PCB due to high temperature cycling it experiences. Using a temperature monitoring software, the core of the CPU chip reached 80deg C. I do not know what the video chip temperature is but surely, the thermal design of this laptop is not adequate. If you decide to fix your laptop, buy a new or refurbished board, the one whose BGA chip has been professionally removed and resoldered. Do not buy a used motherboard pulled from an old laptop as the life will be greatly shortened.Read full review

Worked flawlessly at first. The laptop was always used for lighter tasks: typing text, browsing the web, watching some videos. I always do my best to keep my laptops cool, and this was no exception: the fan hardly had to work. One morning, some 7 weeks after i installed the board, the laptop refused to boot: a blinking light is all i get. I checked the CPU, RAM, HDD, ODD - everything i could. Nothing made a difference: the motherboard is just dead.

Probably thinking whether or not to bite the bullet on a replacement motherboard, right? I shopped around hoping to find another laptop that would give me the same specs and features of my CQ62Z-300: 15.6" screen, webcam, both HDMI and VGA out, Windows 10 Home 64 bit, including the reasonably priced hardware upgrades that I already gave it, AMD Phenom II N640 CPU running at 2.9 GHZ and 8 GBs of DDR3 RAM for $25. The best other laptop available that came close was a certified refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad T510 for $233. No thanks. With the current EBAY prices and availability for CQ62Z replacement parts, it made sense to go ahead and fix it. This might change later but for now it was a go. So yes, fixing the old laptop did offer more bang for my buck.

My video chip fried & I did not want to purchase a new laptop. Searched my PN & found this for under $50. Shipped fast, replaced old board, and I was up and running in less than a week!

I recently replaced a G62 motherboard with a failed video chip with this product. It came with the fan, processor and heat sink already attached unlike most other products and it was less expensive as well! With all the other things that could go wrong in such a repair, I was glad to eliminate the two most difficult ones with this product. I am very pleased with the product and look forward to more of such simple solutions by the same company.
