Works great
I bought this to power a 2 hp. Bridgeport milling machine. No brainer to wire. Works great. The aluminum enclosure is a bit flimsy, but does the job. I would recommend this if you have the power to spare.

lightweight but handy.
I bought this item for a tire balancing machine. My biggest pet peeve is no schematic for the switch mechanism inside. My old hofmann 3 phase tire balancing machine has a 1.5 HP motor the size of texas. This converter did not work right out of the box. Once the wires were swapped so it ran the motor in the right direction it still didn't work. motor would not get out of the start winding mode. Unhooking one of the capacitors as suggested in the documentation still didn't work though it did spin up a bit faster. In the documentation it suggests hooking a start capacitor between t2 and t3 to compensate for the power loss the converter causes. This capacitor should have been included. What finally worked was a little trick my dad suggested of hooking both capacitors up in series. This halves ... I bought this item for a tire balancing machine. Great US made product with real US technical support
Bought this for my 3/4hp mill, turns out when they say 1-3HP they mean it. But a quick call to technical support solved my problem, just disconnect the jumper capacitor and we are in business! Comes with very detailed instructions. You have to be somewhat tech savvy to hook this thing up though, you have to figure out which two phases on your machine are used for the contactor coils and those have to be hooked up to specific terminals in the converter.Bought this for my 3/4hp mill, turns out when they say 1-3HP they mean it. perfect for the home shop
I have this wired to a pancake 1hp 3 phase motor wired to 220v on a south bend mill. Seems to work just fine on a 50 amp breaker, the only real complaint i have is i wish the aluminum casing was a little thicker (its a little flimsy but works just fine). I have done some power tapping (3/8-16 in steel) with success flipping from forward to reverse instantly, but i would not recommend trying to peck tap or flipping forward to reverse more than once. A 1hp motor lacks power for hard milling anyway but plowing a 1/2 carbide endmill full depth didnt seem to phase it much. For the money i wouldnt bother trying to make one of these and its perfect for a home shop. I have yet to really work the machine to see how it does after hours of non stop use.
