This movie is a great example of a 1950s "A" Hollywood western. Starring Burt Lancaster as Wyatt Earp, Kirk Douglas as Doc Holiday and a young Dennis Hopper as one of the cowboys. With a screen play by Leon Uris and musical score by Dimitri Tiomkin and theme song sung by Frankie Lane there are no dull moments in this movie. It is just what it was made to be, a great entertaining escapist movie. Made in the day when Kirk Douglas' Holiday was about as damaged as a "hero" was allowed to be portrayed. On the other hand if you are looking for historical accuracy, this is Hollywood, not history. This Hollywood version of the gunfight takes nearly 20 minutes and several city blocks to cover what happened in less than a minute in a vacant lot. If you want 2 hours of exciting story, this is a good movie.Read full review
This is a wonderful and engaging movie, and it's a true story about Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. The two main characters are excellent in their roles (as in all their movies). One thing I like is they are both always dressed so neat and clean, with ties.

This movie is based on the actual gunfight that took place at Tombstone's OK Corral. Most of what you see in the movie did not happen in reality. Yet, the story, dialogue, music, the set, etc are highly entertaining. Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster make a great combo. I have watched this movie many times, but never got bored. The main characters were the infamous Doc Holiday and notorious Wayat Earp.

I have loved this movie since it first came out in about 1956. Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas and Rhonda Fleming are wonderful in it.
