I have had 2 other Garmins and they are still working,I bought this one because I wanted to upgrade.I like the lane assist and 3d buildings. The unit is great. One thing I don't like is getting the map update,it is about 2 GB.If you have dial up forget it you can't download it.I went to a friend to download and with his high speed internet it was going to take about 6 hours,my son had a faster internet service and he downloaded it in about 30 minutes. It was frustrating trying to download it on my computer there needs to be a better way to do this,I sure am glad my son lived in a place where he had a fast internet service. The company needs to address this problem,I live out in a rural area and any service out here can not handle the download, even Hughes net can't down load this in a timely manner. After I got that downloaded everything is great. They make so many models you just have to set down and decide what one is best for you,I also like the free life time traffic and hands free calling.Everyday I find out more you can do with this unit. You get a fast start owners manual but it only gives you the basics,I suggest you go on line and download the owners manual it is 70 pages long but it goes into complete detail on how to use the unit,to bad Garmin doesn't send one with the new unit. The GPS is great the company needs to get a little more user friendly.Read full review
I have owned 3 of these units and all of them have had issues with the Bluetooth. Aside from this, all the units have had great tracking ability, accurate directions and the FM transmitter is a great feature for long road trips. Not only does it allow you to receive your direction over your radio, but it also has a built in MP3 player as well. The MP3 player and FM transmitter are the main reasons for my purchases. You can buy an external antenna but I have yet to actually need the one that I do own. I would caution using more than an 8 Gigabyte card for your music as it can take quite a bit of time to load up and will occasionally stop the sound from transmitting. You will need to go into the setting and disable the FM transmitter. Accept then exit to the main screen and then go in and restart the transmitter.Read full review
I like: the direct and simple approach. I have worked with a Magellan Maestro which I liked also. However the Garmin Nuvi 765T has live traffic feed and will tell you what lane you need to be in for that up coming turn. It is clear and direct. The equipment itself feels very sturdy, well made. Not flimsy. I like that it tells you the speed you should be going and shows what speed you are actually going. The arrival time adjusts according to the delay time and how fast or slow you are going. This GPS also shows you a turn-by-turn list or the mapped out version; pretty cool if you ask me. I dislike: the fact It does not have an internal battery that I can change, AA or AAA, maybe others will see this as a plus. The GPS charges by way of a USB, or Car plug which comes with the GPS or, you can buy an adapter to charge it from home. I decided on the Garmin Nuvi 765T because of it's excellent reviews on other sites, I liked the features explain earlier and the price on ebay was just right.Read full review
I bought this GPS to replace the Navigon GPS I recently purchased. After I purchased my Navigon GPS and map updates, the company said they are quitting the GPS business and we're now making iphones, so those of you who bought Navigon GPS's are screwed. I originally bought the Navigon because it had features that Garmin didn't have. I'm happy to say, Garmin now has those features and some additional ones. Lane advice, traffic reporting. Previously, I had a Garmin marine GPS I'd used for years with few problems, and they are still in business to support their customers with their purchases. This unit has functioned well so far. I did get some error problems downloading and installing the newest software and the newest map update that came with the purchase. I was disappointed when I called customer support and the recording said, I'd have to wait 30 minutes to talk to someone. Going back to the marine GPS, like most electronic component makers, after a few years they will change/upgrade their products and quit with the software support. They were still willing to repair the unit for years after stopping the software support.Read full review
This is a good GPS unit with great features. I have been using it for about a week and have not found any negative issues with it. Garmin.com reports it is not compatible with my phone, but the phone was able to setup a connection and has worked well with the GPS. The mapping software could use an update, but I haven't downloaded the most recent update, so they may have fixed the problems already. I have to take a U-turn near my house and the GPS unit says to take the turn before I can, there must be some planned U-turns that did not get completed.
