I bought this drive to replace an OEM Hitachi TravelStar- my linux smart utility reported the Hitachi had developed 10% bad sectors. It was 4 years old, and still booted fine. After extensive specification comparisons of available ATA interface drives, the Seagate seemed to be the best buy. Latency and seek times are comparable to the better performing SATA drives, and published shock resistance G's, as well as drive life expectancy, were all deciding factors. Even though the 5400 spindle speed is not as fast as the hard to find 7200s, this drive is noticeably quicker than the 4200 OEM Hitachi. It is also much quieter. The Seagate I purchased was new and factory sealed, and after a month of service I have no complaints- great drive!
I wanted to upgrade an old laptop to a larger hard drive. I didn't have the disks to reinstall the operating system so I decided to try a free program from the web to make a copy. I didn't want to use a new hard drive for the experiment so I purchased this one from ebay. The program worked great, now my laptop has the extra storage space needed and a bonus backup in case the replacement hard drive fails. I also purchased some so-dimm memory on ebay for the upgrade.
Seagate has been a trusted name in hard drives for decades. This unit doesn't disappoint either. It was a snap to install and worked from the start. I have breathed some new life in my ten year old laptop.

I bought this drive as a replacement for an older laptop. Install was very easy and the drive took off without issue. This drive was an upgrade in capacity at 80gb vs its 60gb predecessor which made for a nice bonus. Speed was a match at 5400rpm but would rather have had 7200rpm however, the price difference just didn't warrant going that route. Seagate brand & reputation was certainly a part of the decision process. These drives have consistently received good ratings which is very reassuring. In the end I am very happy with this drive. If only it was 7200rpm but at the lower price, you just cannot go wrong.
I purchased a Seagate Momentus PATA hard drive for my mothers laptop, because the original one quit working. My mothers hard drive was an 80GB also, and the eBay ad said it was a direct replacement, which it was. I installed it very easily, and with the help of Dell, selling me the set up disks...it was easy to make the computer like new again. Thanks eBay, you've been a great help.
